VR-Zone Scores R600 Pictures & Benchmarks

VR-Zone managed to get not only pictures of ATi's next flagship, but a couple of benchmark figures as well. The R600 XTX managed to score 9700 in 3DMark06 at 1600x1200 while the GeForce 8800 GTX only managed around 9500 or so. The core clock is reportedly 800MHz.

There is almost certainly more performance to be gained from driver optimizations for the new card and clock speeds could always change. And, obviously, one DX9 benchmark is not the best indicator of performance. However, beating the 8800 GTX by a mere 2% doesn't seem too promising, especially with nVidia's partners overclocking 8800 GTX's as much as 10% from the reference card. I'm thinking that the impending 8800 Ultra will be giving R600 some stiff competition this Spring.

At least!!!! ;) I'm thinking of when Griswald (Chevy Chase) turned on the Christmas lights.....the power meter goes crazy and causes a rolling blackout to the city. Thank god the nuclear power plant kicked it up a notch and saved the city!
What will happen here when the "uber geeks" start putting this bad-boy in their cases? :O

@ Wraithdagger: thermaltake alreaddy has a 1kw and 1.2kw that are designed to support 3 of those cards,(just dont plan on having any harddrives)They come with three 8pin pci-e connectors and four 6pin pci-e connectors, not to mention that the card can run on just two 6pin connectors.
And @ all I also read a review that did benchmarks on actual game performance, the MINIMUM % in fps that the r600 beat the 8800 by was 10 and in some games it went all the way up to 45% higher framrate.
Ultra or not, if THAT benchmark is true nvidia is going to need to chop prices.

Hello, ekans, where did you get those numbers? A single 8800 GTX needs something like 400 w, if I recall correctly. A different thing is what you will need for the whole PC, 750 being a good aprox.

Did VR edit the article? It says target launch with driver is May? Slippery product - they can't seem to nail down a real release...

@ wraithdigger, i dont think anyone said anything about 4 cards, nor do i think ANYTHING supports 4 (graphics phisics cards) weather it be a chipset, any current graphics card, motherboard, power supply, your socks, or brain medication.
however 2 of them with a phisics card (probably with only one core, and less power hungry) probably would work.

Of course you never had any problems, videocards manufacturers often recommend very high-rated PSU's, just to "support" the industry. It's all just a part of this huge money-game.

Videocard reviews do the same thing, convince people to buy expensive cards. For a while i thought you needed a realy high end system just to be able to run Chronicles of Riddick. I played it maxed-out (no aa/af) on my Athlon 2000 @ 2,0 Ghz and 9600Pro with 512 DDR333.
