The Return of the Ultra

It seems nVidia is indeed planning to counter the impending R600 launch sometime in the near future. VR-Zone noticed the following entry in inf file of the latest nVidia drivers:

NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0194.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra"

Judging from the fact that it says G80 and not G81, I'm betting the Ultra will be a minor speed bump on the core, but will probably use GDDR4 memory and get a boost in speed there as well.

Booyah! I hope that card comes soon so I can trade up using the Evga program! I am going to be buying the Evga 8800 GTS 320MB this month.

That's AWFUL. All those people who bought the 8800 *GTX* and trusted the suffix "GTX" to be the best are going to be Majorly let down.
Also, the 7800 GTX 512 is not going to be better than the X1800XT with it's lower process and higher memory bandwidth.

@Track: Anyone who thinks releasing a faster video card makes a manufacturer of fast video cards "AWFUL", is a complete idiot.

Furthermore, anyone who buys a video card thinking it's going to be the best for any more than a couple of months is also an idiot.
