Guru3D got their hands on a leaked confidential email from AMD that stated that the HD 7950 will be launched and available for purchase in February of 2012, instead of the previously reported date of January 9th. I'm glad that this card will be launched and available on the same day unlike the HD 7970 which is still 5 more days away from commercial availability.

Secondly, I believe as there%u2019s no pressure AMD wised up, and figured why cannibalize their own sales. First see just how many will step-up at $550; this tells AMD if and just how many are willing to really ante-up even in a down economy. If you release both there are plenty who's consider a 7950 custom slightly OC card is just fine, and AMD%u2019s new marketing never really indentifies if there were a group of folks who%u2019d find the extra $100. Those who say I'll spend the extra today really delineates the size of the market going forward, those who can't substantiate it will hold. It's really a great tool to justify now moving to what%u2019s their new "Super Über market", while it permits AMD to just keep the momentum rolling month after month.
What this also might project is that more chips are worse than AMD has contracted to accept and binning more below 7950 specifications. If that's the case we might well see a 7930 some point not too far out%u2026 when TSMC gives you lemons, you offer Lemonade!
