The decision to buy GeForce 3D Vision.

Test Setup

We'll be running 4 games with and without 3D Vision enabled using a single GTX 280, GTX 280 SLI and GTS 250.

Our review "software suite" consists of:

  • GeForce GPU driver v181.22 (Feb 2nd)
  • GeForce 3D Vision driver v181.25 (Feb 2nd)
  • Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit
  • F.E.A.R. 2
  • Far Cry 2
  • Left 4 Dead
  • Unreal Tournament 3

Our review hardware consists of (my PC):

  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad QX6700 @2,666MHz
  • Motherboard: MSI P7N SLI Platinum
  • GPUs: Evga GTX 280 (01G-P3-1280-AR), Galaxy GTX 280 (28TGF1HBFEXX) & Palit GTS 250
  • Memory: 4GB (2x 2GB) Corsair Dominator PC2-8500 @800MHz
  • Hard Drive: Western Digital 250GB SATA 7,200RPM
  • PSU: Enermax Galaxy DXX 1,000 Watt
  • PC Monitor: Samsung 22" 2233RZ
  • GeForce 3D Vision Kit

Our testing methodology involves me playing a game and recording 2 minute sections using Fraps. I get at least 3 two minute runs and then I average the Minimum, Maximum and Average FPS numbers. The settings are kept the same for all graphics cards.

Except a monitor , one too needs to buy a very powerfull GPU in order to play the games with decent FPS since playing them in 3D mode decreases FPS a lot. So there is a lot of money to invest in the system.

Nice review bro, wish I had the cash to pick one up too! I mean c'mon all I wanna do is shoot zombies to pieces in glorious 3D. I think I may need a slight system overhaul to do so how I want though, but keep up the good work on the reviews! I wish nvidia would send me free stuff lol

That was a good review, but at this time I've got other upgrades that would make more sense for the dollar.

sweet review, I hope that in the future nvidia adds more LCD monitors to his list, cause these 2 are not in my budget interval

There was a show-off of stuff @ here Estonia... And the 3D Vision was show there also. I just wanted to take all that shit home after 2 mins i got the glasses on. Would buy it for sure but i just got myself a new PC and the 3D Vision stuff is just a bit out of my budget.

I only watch 3D movies with brown glasses (similar to 3Dvision). I will buy this glasses, but now is not the right time. The best way to play without problems is an SLI 470/480 GTX and a 120Hz LCD or LED monitor. Is expensive and require an entire new PC. For that i will save the money for now, and wait for a better GPU come to market, but i will buy a 75Hz LED monitor and will try this glasses for movie since 75fps/2=37fps is enough to watch eny 3Dmovie or play a game at acepptable fps with a cheap GTS250 that I allready have..Seem 3Dvision must wait until some new GPU has some internal codec for proccesing the 3dvision future and aboid the drop of fps to half. I speak spanish so plz forgive me is i speel all wrong
