Some Nvidia SLi 2.0 rumors to get your juices flowin'.

Vrzone is reporting that there will be some SLi 2.0 hotness on display at CeBIT in March. Apparently 2.0 will bring some "mixed cards" functionality to the table.

If Vrzone does not say, then I don't know. I imagine new 8000 series cards can mixed. Like 8600 8800 GTX.

Wanna know what's gonna be different? The 3rd slot on the 680 series will be used for Physics just like on the rd600 and Pci-e 32x(On future mobos) Now those are the basic things there should be some other improvements too.(Hopefully Nforce2 sound) Also Nvidia has been working on a technology which allows more then 2 cards in sli.(Not like quad sli) Just like vr-zone said but it allows sli up to how many pci-e 16x slot's on the mobo there are.(Physical not electrical)
So we can expect Nvidia to make chipsets which support a total of 64 pci-e lanes(32x times 2 or 16x times 4)

I dont get this - is it a software upgrade for the 680i that will allow 3 cards in SLi 2.0 or would i have to buy a whole new motherboard?
BTW, nice work keeping with the speculation, David!

From what i here it is already implemented to some extent in the 680i mobo . I keep hearing they may increase the pci-e lanes on the Nforce 7 or they might refresh the 680i with a new chipset with SLI 2.0 features. Oh and it aint speculation it's good friends. ;)

nForce 700 could have PCIe 2.0.

I dont know abt this being on 680i SLi.. even if its hardware, then it wouldnt be only on select ones.
Im probably going to buy a 680i SLi motherboard in a few months, so we'll see.

Well it's tuesday and the only bit of info i got is this. "680i supports up to 48 pci-e lanes" So that means 3 card sli is a go just gotta implement(How i dont know might be drivers) "Nforce 7 will have more then 64 pci-e lanes" My bet is 72-86. And finally Nvidia might Refresh the 680 series for pci-e 32x.
