Radeon HD 4890 is incoming.

Yesterday some more HD 4890 benchmark results hit the webs along with some pics of a Gigabyte retail offering. The HD 4890 features the 55nm RV790 core running at 850MHz with 1GB of GDDR5 running at a total of 3,900MHz. The video card is rumored to become available between April 6th and April 8th so we will be adding this to the database soon.

Should I trade in my 4850?

@uncle. Why would you consider trading in your 4850 now? From the looks of things the 4890 is a huge jump in power requirements over your card and you haven't even used your 4850 for a reasonable amount of time to justify the purchase. Falling out of love so soon just because you see some sexy beta bench scores?

@Mach. Sexy beta bench scores or not, my crappy assed GeForce 9600 GS (that can't even be found on this site) has got to go.

@cllund78 I would certainly say that a 4850 performs much better than a nvidia 9600 GS. Upgrading to this 4890 is a huge increase in power reqs, not to mention accomodating such a large card. (double wide)

@Mach. That's what I'm talking about Machman. The only thing that I went skimpy on was my rig's video card, because I knew that the next gen cards were coming out soon. I've got power to spare. Not to mention that I grew up in a quintuple wide so I am more than comfortable with a double wide. In fact, I have more than enough room to support crossfire. The 9600 GS is the most pathetic card that I've come across in the past few years. But, I had some good mail in rebates and used it as a cheap crutch. So long weakest link...well, at least in a couple of weeks.

well, I would think someone buying a 9400GT or 9500GT thinking it would be better than a plain 9600GS would take issue with you. I really don't know why you are so shocked. The 9600GS isn't a slouch, but still is a low-mid level card. Even mentioning/comparing it with a card like the 4890 that is selling for upwards of $280 ?! eh? Not to mention buying a proper 500w/600wPSU to support the 4890?. Another $80-120 ?
