soo, will these new cards work in a pci-e 1 mobo?

We know that this card is DirectX 10.1 and Shader 4.1. We will fix it soon. We have to add those options to the drop down lists.

"soo, will these new cards work in a pci-e 1 mobo?"

yes. 1.x and 2.0 mobos/video cards are fully backwards compatible.

Okay so, in the reference images there's this pic of 4x HD3850's but if you select the option "Multi-GPU" it can only give you the theoretical raw performance of 2 cards together. *hint* I'd love to see a button called "Show Quad-Card Specs" ;)

It's done mathematically . If you want the Quad-Card specs , then just multiply the single one's specifications by 4 .

It's an 8800GTS (G80) for 170 bucks right now. Let time do its thing, and this card'll make history in the price/performance books.

Overclock it a bit, and you've got a 3870, which is 10-25% below an 8800GT.

Excellent card for the price!

A 512mb 3850 sounds like a sweet deal for me right now...

It's board is already different , so you cannot make a HD 3870 out of this card . But make no mistake , obviously , you can OC this thing like hell , provided you put a dual slot aftermarket cooler on it... single slot coolers just suck .

yep this little baby has an excellent price/performance, en it is is sweetly overclockeble (even with the single slot cooler) but i still going for the HD 3870 is a better idea, preverably 2 :P
and to for this bloak: and you've got a 3870, which is 10-25% below an 8800GT.
A HD 3870 is slower in most games without AA on. and faster with AA on. About 10-15% either way. Just my 50 cents

The specs listed (Pixel Fill Rate, Sahder Operators etc.); are they on the 256MB or the 512MB or is there no difference?

does this card work on my 350WaTT PSU??
Thursday, December 13, 2007 8:23:45 PM
@ can a P4 3.4GHz push this card?
I would ask you what your current card is. CPU bottlenecking is not a yes-no question. everything is percentages. An athlon 64 3200 will bottle neck a small percentage more then an Athlon 64 3400 , which bottlenecks a small percentage more then an Atholon 3600 .

That said, my short answer would be yes, you are OK to use this CPU. If your LGA 775 (which you are unless you REALLY managed to push a northwood) you can get a Pentium D on ebay for cheap, if you feel like dealing with the e-bay bog. A more powerful CPU will of course give more performance, but I think you're ok.

@ dif in pixel fill between 512mb and 256mb ver:
there is no difference. If the core speed is different there will be a difference, but it is minimal. If you've noticed, these guys don't make a page for separate memory sizes because the difference in memory size doesn't really effect anything else on the page. (except the 7800GTX 512mb, this card had substantial difference between the 7800GTX 256mb, warranting the two pages).

@ the two PSU guys:
Donno, depends: there are good PSUs and there are bad PSUs. A Seasonic HB 380W can do this card no trouble, an Apvia 450W couldn't.

Not going into ripple or voltage regulation (which can kill any component of your system): I would suggest a PSU with a single 20A 12V rail or greater. On the side of your PSU there is a chart. Under the "12V" column, look up the amperage. IF there is no chart, its a shitty PSU, ditch it, and get a Corsair VX450W (cheap and very well performing).

@ can a D 3.0GHz handle this card:
I would give you the same answer as the P4 3.4Ghz guy, in general yes, but It would be a good idea to upgrade. Just because your on dual core doesn't mean your better off, infact your pretty much worse off, as many games will look at your CPU, and see only 1 thread. In this case your running a game just as if you had a P4 3.0GHz.

And yeah, you guys, this card supports DX 10.1, add dat please.

one more thing, If AMD can manage an RV 670 with, say, 160 or 240 of these shaders, AMD would be in a prime position to crush the 8600 line, which is weak.

Anyways, kudos to AMD marketing, they saved the engineering teams ass here. the R600 couldn't perform. What does AMD do? Go after Nvidias only real hole: the $150-$250 range. They did it perfectly. There no way you could consider Nvidia;s 8400GS - 8600GTS AND THEN THIS MASSIVE HOLE 8800GTS 320mb - 8800GTX a decent card lineup. that massive hole is now filled with the HD3850 and 3870. :)

Here are my specs.

1) amd64 4000 skt 939
2) 2 gb ram in dual channel
3) X1950pro PCI-e

would it be better to upgrade the x1950pro to a HD3850 pro, or upgrade my whole system to

1) P35 motherboard
2) core 2 duo 6750
3) 2 gb ram

But keep the x1950pro

Anyone Run this card on a dell E510 or 5510 wondering if the size is just too big to fit under the cooling system. I know that the 3870 will not fit. or can anyone measure the card and give me the dimensions, length and width.

it runs satisfactorily on P4 systems... i also observed my friend with these cardz HD3870... it has better performance and no bottleneck.

as for my Brazilian friend.... buy a better PSU with 600 watts capacity.... and reformat your drive...

actually my friend used it in a core 2 duo system with 3.0ghz clock. it has fluid for crysis.... i aslo borrowed it and used it on my P4 system.... it was not as fast as his..... but it can play Call of duty 4 perfectly

I've got the Sapphire HD3850 512MB on winXPx64prof. A really nice card. I've got a question though. Catalyst 8.1 says that the GPU clock speed is 300mhz. Is this right? I thought it was supposed to be 669mhz. Is this a software bug or what?

Any idea how the performance of this stacks up against the HD2900Pro?

Just wondering, because the 2900 has a 512-bit memory interface.

It kills the HD 2900 Pro and is a bit slower than the HD 2900 XT ( faster in some applications though )

Ati cards stills sucks when AA is turned on even the 3870X2. But still an excellent deal without AA. Now it's 3850 vs 8800gs for price/performance. In AA mode, the 8800gs definately takes the lead.

do you think this competes w/ the upcoming 9600GT? cause the 256mb version of this card costs me $185.00 in our country? will this be a bang for my buck or wait for the 9600GT?

@mE_bytes The Radeon HD3850 perform better than the GeForce 9600GT...

The powercolor version is damn freaking huge, I had a hard time trying to help my friend install.

My mistake, this card is not meant to compete with the 8800GS, the performance is in the middle of 8600GTS and 8800GS...

This card is a very clear choice around the market if you're looking for a very powerful for a $200 budget, this card crashed the nvidia's 8600 series for the price and performance, it is a very wise choice to save up addition #20 for this card, I just got mine and I'm very happy with it. Very good card for the pricetag

It's a shame that the ATI stream processors and Nvidia shader processors aren't directly comparable. Because on paper, the ATI cards sound ridiculously powerful with their 320 stream processors. But then you look at the benchies and see the 3850 get owned by the Nvidia 9600GT with a mere 64 shaders.

The 9600 GT is incredibly efficient... it provides slightly lower performance with 64 SPs , than the 8800 GT with 112 of them .
And uhm... ATi's 320 shader processors = 64x5 shader processors... which is essentially 64 shader processors that can do 5 things at a time .

I might be getting one of these soon (the 256MB version). Just wondering, will it cope running my 19" wide at native (1440x900)?

I hope I can extend my budget to get the HD 3870...

*EDIT* I can get the 256MB for about 123$, and the 3870 for 166$.

i'm planning to buy this card. So, can i run crysis on high settings with no AA on a resolution 1024x768? or higher res?
Tuesday, September 22, 2009 10:49:16 PM
1024x768 is fine.

Your processor would be the bottleneck at that resolution.
