Our first news post that did not come from some other site.

Over the weekend Mike received an email from Diamond Multimedia about their upcoming 1GB GDDR4 HD 2900 XT. This news is exciting to us because it is the first time that we have been contacted by a company like this about a new product release. This card will be identical to the normal HD 2900 XT except for the added memory. The press release has a date of June 14th on it but had no embargo date on it.

Is really good or is a better performance 1gb over 768MB?

Wonder how it fares against its 512mb counterpart...

Still needs better drivers.

The preview looked bad, some people blame it on drivers(myself included :D).
I like the positioning of the power connectors, if your case is at the limit you'll still be fine ;).
What else..hmm..lets see it in action and it looks like Mike is lucky or has a friend on the inside. heheh :D

@anonymousD Mike is not lucky. The site is finally starting to draw the attention of video card manufacturers. In fact, I intend to introduce myself to Nvidia/ATI at PAX this year. At least one of those companies will be there.

Huh... Maybe it isn't in drivers, maybe some games just can't use ATI's powerful card :)

I hope that 512Mb more memory (total 1024) helps. If not, then ATI is screwed.

I like to think the attention is thanks in no small part to Steve's excellent job with the news lately...:)

GPU review finally gets some well earned attention! AMD seems to have made quite a good marketing decision here. Everyone believed the R600 to be a flop at its initial release, but now, with later drivers, and more memory, those reviews will be getting a refreash, as almost everyone reviewing the 1gb model will be reviewing its 512mb counterpart.
So, the differance the drivers make in FPS will become apparent. Like everyone else here, I hope they make the drivers, and if VRzone's rumors about a broken AA architecture are true, and the possibillity of fixing it with a simple firmware patch are also true, perhalps we can see the drivers(and a firmware patch) make a huge differance in FPS.

@Kriza : It's definitley the drivers . I hope they will be releasing a new batch of drivers along with the 1 GB GDDR4 HD 2900 XT . The performance between the 512MB GDDR4 and 1GB GDDR4 should be quite nice , since it's clocks are bumped a nice amount higher too . Well it's good that this site is finally getting noticed by the big companies .

First - Kudos to the GPU Review Team - this is definitely my only "go to" resource for all things video... Keep up the great work.

The Extreme-PC review seems very pro ATI, and hey why not - they are from Canada... My concern is that all the ATI banter clouds the review of the actual hardware - they should let the numbers speak for themselves and leave the editorial on AMD/ATI for another article. And in reference to their numbers and charts - I see loads of what appear to be discrepancies either in the labeling on the charts or typos but the attention to detail is lacking. I read the article through twice and was more confounded by the data they gave. They praised the card but according to most of the charts it takes 2 2900s to beat 1 8800Ultra... Hmmm Frustrating...

@KARacing : it was 2x 2900s to beat 2 8800 Ultras.
Any reviews of this card out as of yet?
