Nvidia shows they can make 55nm parts too. The 9800 GTX+ is born.

Yes Nvidia is trying to combat ATI's NDA removalby announcing their own 55nm part. Behold the wonder that is the 9800 GTX+! PCPerspective has laid out the specs of this card as follows:

  • MSRP: $229
  • Core clock: 738 MHz
  • Shader clock: 1836 MHz
  • 512MB GDDR3 Memory @ ~1000 MHz
  • 2- and 3-Way SLI support
  • kick in the ass

I think $229 is pretty awesome because the best price for a "normal" 65nm 9800 GTX at Newegg right now is, wait for it... $229.99!

PCPerspective also posted pics of a naked 9800 GTX+ in order to prove its 55nmness.

I will add this new card to the database right now, because I care. Some people even say that I sometimes care too much...

The 9800 GTX+ page is up so now you can do wacky things like comparing the 9800 GTX+ to the tried and true 9800 GTX. Or maybe you would prefer the 9800 GTX+ vs the HD 4850...

Oh, so...we're adding to names now. Weren't we simplifying the name structure? Are we going to have 45nm GTX 280 ? Why not call it the 9850 GTX, at least that has some tradition behind it. But we can't do that, can we, because AMD/ATI owns the 50 and 70 now?

Seems to me that nVidia is a bit...nervous. Why? Surely there's nothing to worry about.

Ok 55nm and a higher stock clock. Dang its like anything they change is bam, a new card. Seems like they are all about revisions on the Nvidia side.

Since when can a company trademark a number series? I thought a zeros were public domain. What's next, can Nvidia use @ next time? LOL

Cant you get a 9800gtx overclocked to this spec or do it yourself anyways???

its confusing , the MEM. bandwidth is lower than the 65nm model , which was already low for a high end card !!

I think there won't be much performance boost, except for slightly highly speeds.

Lol... I doubt even this revision would stand against the HD 4850 .
Nvidia should have made a real midend card for the GT200 series... instead of using the G92 core over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again .

Check out our overclocking roundup for the 9800 GTX. All the cards overclocked by the review sites except for 3 were able to overclock beyond the 9800 GTX specs.
