They made soo many architecture changes with this new chip, maybe they did not have time. Some these cards can get their memory clocks over 2GHz which is really nice. Maybe the 8900 series will have GDDR4. That would be cool.

It's my understanding that the G80 can support GDDR4 natively. But why use GDDR4 if you don't need the bandwidth, which is all that GDDR4 really buys you, a faster clock rate for memory.
