New 512MB 8800 GTS Pictures

TechConnect Magazine has some pictures posted of the upcoming 512MB G92-based GeForce 8800 GTS 512. Why in the world they aen't naming the card 8900 GTS is beyond me. This is going to add even more confusion to an already confusing marketplace where the cheaper 8800 GT is faster than the GTS. Now we're going to have a GTS that looks to be faster than the Ultra!

The 8800 GTS 512 will have no less than 128 Stream Processors enabled. This would be mean the additional 16 shader units exist on all GeForce 8800 GT cards, but are disabled for yield or marketing purposes. In addition to the extra shaders, the new G92 will also feature higher core frequencies and support for up to 1GB GDDR3.

as i said above there are disabled shader units in the 8800gt(which means a lot !!!). But putting a standard rating about the mainstream & upper end parts the things are :

8600GT < 8600GTS < 8800GTS 320MB* < 8800GT 256MB < 8800GTS 640MB* < 8800GT 512MB < 8800GTS 640MB "NEW REV"

My guess is it'll be a little under an Ultra, but the new GTX will destroy everything.

Why in the world they aen't naming the card 8900 GTS? Answer is simple - they don't want to have 'higher' named card at lower price (8900 less expensive and faster than 8800).

Wraithdagger demands less 8800s... we now have:

8800GT 256/512mb
8800GTSv1 320/640mb
8800GTSv2 256?/512mb
8800GTX
8800Ultra

Too many to count! =(

Hmmm??? This card might perform good but does anyone else think this card looks ugly? For some reason I can't post under my name and rank here I can only post as a guest. But in the forums it is ok? Hmmm?

From article:
"Now we're going to have a GTS that looks to be faster than the Ultra!"

Isnt that how its meant to be though :p? The 8900 series is meant to beat the 8800 series isnt it. Its like if they brought out an 8600 Ultra with uber high clocks....you would still expect the 8800GTS to beat it.
