Just in case PCIe 3.0 wasn't fast enough for you.

A quick blurb article from Engadget last Wednesday shared an announcement from PCI-SIG: PCIe 4.0 is coming, and soon (release is projected for 2015). While the information that's been shared on the evolved PCIe could fit onto a single notecard, full specs are expected to be available in 2014. Check the Engadget link for the full announcement and get ready to upgrade your motherboards (in 3 years).

Are you serious? I don't even know of a single video card (or any other PCI-E card) yet that can fully use up PCI-E 2.0's 16Gb/s bandwidth much less the new PCI-E 3.0's 32Gb/s (I think) bandwidth. Geez technology moves fast.

I have a theory about that, Pelter. Since motherboards are upgraded less often than video cards, it makes sense for those building new PCs to have boards that will be compatible with cards that will be on the market within the next couple years. So while it might seem like they're getting ahead of themselves here, by the time this board is available, cards that can make use of it should become available relatively soon afterward.

That's His Name so Don't Wear it Out!
At least if CPUs/motherboards support PCI-E 3.0 and 4.0 lanes, that means fewer lanes are required to give more USB 3.0 ports! Maybe soon there will be a motherboard with ONLY USB 3 connectors!
