It is HD 5830 launch day!

There is another HD 5000 series video card coming out this month. This one is being released in the 'sweet spot' between the 5850 ($300) and 5770 ($150) and if the reviews are any indication, the HD 5830 is well worth the money. It looks like if you decrease the AA level by one notch, the HD 5830 will net you the same amount of frames per second as the more expensive HD 5850.

Some of these boards are looking pretty sweet by the way.

these arent really fisable cards actually. basically its a dx11 enable hd 4890 with the fan (in sapphires case) off an hd 5850 toxic edition. with a mild using a defunct hd 5870 gpu core. BUT this card is an OC'ers wet dream as like the phenom II x3's you can throw these babies through the roof. you can essentially get an hd 5850 toxic from spending less. quite a case of highway robbery if you get the sapphire one and go bonkers on the OCing.

That's His Name so Don't Wear it Out!
I've heard that these were on average equivalent or up to 10% slower than a 4890 or GTX 275. $240 seems like a bit of a premium to me. And the 5830 seems to be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 themed, with at least 2 CoD versions, 1 from Sapphire & one from HIS. Weird.

Yea, I think it's miserable that so much of TSMC early production had to be bin. These chips came out with dead areas in Stream Processors, but severely gimped on the ROP's. I assume ATI had the redundancy of the ROP's, but production caused them to of lose those particularly. Normally, ATI engineers have designed in 8 ROP chunks that can be disable, though most all the chips must have had two of the sectors inactive. While there are a few with 24 ROP's; that wouldn't have provided enough chips to release the anticipated market need, while still needing a home for the predominate number. I'd say had they had 24 ROP's ATI would have had a excellent card that they would have set a $40 higher price. They may or may not use the remaining chips or they might release something in extremely limited number like the 4860 just was.

i dunno. seen a few reviews. its a very crippled card. it might have 256 bit but...
from the results of the reviews, i'd say the
128 bit on the 5770 series isn't what was
holding that card back. but the lack of ROPs
and texture units

the 5850 is a min of 25% faster in most cases. costs twice as much , true

you get about a 10% faster card than
the 5770 with a 5830

the 5830 right now is a little over priced
for the performance gained.

its almost like when the 4770 came out. kinda good performance, weird price range

too expensive for the performance...we get treated like this lol because nvidia is not able to compete with ati in time..sigh....
hope both stay in business for a long time, or even better intel picks up at least on the low to medium end so we get even more competition.
and where is s3 at?

well after seeing a bit more indepth reviews
showing Minimum frame rates

i'll have to take back the comment about the 128bit memory channel not really holding back the 5770. apparently it does

you'll notice the min fps is a lot higher
in some games.

It the old addage when TSMC yeilds give you lemons you serve the sour stuff first. Holding the sweeter stuff until when the salon across the steet opens, that when you'll have to start pouring the good stuff. I think anyone looking at the 5830 is going to be waiting to get it the cheap once Nvidia releases their Firmi. ATI will be cutting the deals on these at that time to draw some P.R. off Nvidia. Then 5830 are showning a nice boost when OC'd so as AIB's it with custom cooling the comparision I'd like to see is what a $200 5830 OC, looks like against a $400 GTX470. While what could ATI call a 24-ROP card in the matrix?

all in all this card will overpower the 5770 by quite a bit plus once sapphire releases the toxic edition you will be able to overclock til you drool.

PS: You need to update the superlatives, they are getting outa date by ATI whooping Nvidia's a** constantly seince the first 5000 series was released

Yep. I do think that the superlatives section should be updated.
