GPUReview's GTX 660 Ti overclocking roundup!

This is one of the largest overclocking roundups that I've ever done for a single new graphics card. The memory on the GTX 660 Ti is a litte more overclockable than the memory on the GTX 670 , and the core overclocks almost as well as the GTX 670.

While yes the maximums that can be un-earthed appear good, when actually runnig games I see the the Dynamic Clock profiles of GTX660Ti really set what you'll see and doesn't mean at all what it's running at. I think the GTX670 has a more agressive profile, while the 680 is a little above that. I think if you saw all game titles and how this card curtails speed the gains aren't near what the average added OC number indicates. I want to see a roundup that runs cards stock then OC'd and provide the average of a bunch of titles. Most reviews OC it and run one game like BF3 and called it a day. Nvidia knew that and so they figured let it show hiher but curtail that on the fly no one reall checks it.

You're absolutely right, the GTX 600-series cards run high clocks or overclocks that can curtail when certain parameters are broken. However I will say from my experiences using my GTX 670s for a while, the cards will ONLY downclock from your set clock if the temperature passes 70C, the TDP is reached or the voltage is too low for that specific overclock.

For most, this means that the cards will downclock from the set overclock after a while of heavy gaming. However for crazy enthusiasts such as myself, I am very easily able to keep my cards under 70C even under the most extreme tests AND I know how to raise the video card's TDP Voltage so that my overclocks never drop from 1250Mhz while gaming, so in that respect I am very happy with the huge overclocks the 600-series cards can reach even though in average end-user situations it will not.

Just wanted to share what I have discovered about this series' overclock potential and rant a bit.

As you said the GTX670 is offering the sweet spot for how much Nvidia permits/curtailed by the Dynamic clock nanny, it's the card to win over the real enthusiast. GTX660 is for the more average end-user, who's more than not won't have the level of expertise. The jump to a GTX670 doesn%u2019t seem as impressive from a GTX660, but if you really intend to push it the extra $100 offers the true OC'r more impressive results.
