Sorry about that, it's filled in now. Note that the pipeline and vertex pipeline counts will be off until the site is redesigned for unified shader architectures (which I'll do whenever R600 is released).

As a note: *THERE IS NO REASON TO BUY THIS CARD. BUY THE 8600 GT INSTEAD.*

LMAO @ 128bit! What the hell were they thinking!? OK, I understand that the 86** isn`t some high end series, but in the year 2007 come on! :/ IMP it's a pretty pointless card, better collect more money and buy the 8800gts 320MB. :)

Lol... its quite a fast card , when looking at these numbers... downside is that its GDDR3 not 4

@MrWizard6600: It may not be 32 vec4 pipelines, but they are clocked at 1.45Ghz!

@IT WILL DIE: 128-bit gets them the bandwidth that a mid-range card should have. It even gets them beyond that. If they were to have 256-bit, the bandwidth would be far too high.

@anonymous: Please dont pay attention to the shader operations, as those arent the real ones.

2 It will die in Direct X 1

A: get a less crappy name :p

B: a 128 bit bus isn't a bad thing in my eyes. Pehalps when cranking the AA then you might see performance degradation, but that speed is plenty to get all the textures on and off the memory at adaquit FPS. Dont rag on it till you try it!

This card looks good for a good simple gaming pc that can play all games, and has good shading. but although it may not be the power hungry card that most seem to want, it still is a good range card for gaming. and less heat :D

i think what user "IT WILL DIE IN DIRECT-X 1" wanted to say is, that card will die in direct-x 10 games, yeah it can handle pretty much all dx 9 games on normal resolution and medium/high setting , but i have to agree,i dont belive that 8600gt/s will going to have good perfomance in dx 10 rendering, off course you can play, but not in high setting and silk smooth framerate

DX10 on a DX10 card and on Vista should have better performance than DX9 on the same card and OS.

I'll admit the 128bit is a disappointment but everyone needs to remember this is a MID-ranged card. It actually benchmarks the same as a 7900GT and has DX10 for about the same price. If you wanted more, you should looking on the 8800GT S/X page.

And a note: the card is DX9 emulated... it will actually process DX10 games better because its specifically designed for it.

is there any chance this card could be compared with 7900 gs?, as the other one is 256 bits and vertex operations are not that important for most games?

It's quite a fast card, it should beat the 7900 GS.

Very nice card, 8600GTS is a big improvment from the 6600GT's if anyone is wondering.

very interesting, those willing to buy this card should read this first, spend some extra bucks in the 8800 series or save a few in the 7900, avoid 8600, performance sucks.

I'm confused some reviews said it beat the x1950 pro and some reviews said it sucked.

Hmm extra 20 bucks would buy a 8600..........

yes! there are Reasons to buy this card.

is faster and better than 8600GT, so there a reason. okay! the 8600GTS is a overpriced card and its under performance too.

8600GTS is at X1950GT performance level, but X1950GT costs 140$, 8600GTS can't match X1950Pro/XT or any higher than it.

200$ for this card or 280$ for 8800GTS, 8800GTS kicks ass and is surely the best deal in today graphics.

is MORE POWERFUL than a 8600GTS SLi setup.

the mid-range market is dead at this point. the 8600GT offers close performance for as much as 80$ less than 8600GTS, so is a better deal.

by the way, i have a 8600GT SLi setup, and i'm alot happy with that, it costs me less than a 8800GTS and performs close. *both are XXX edition*

Why are they saving the 256 bit interface? Ati's 2600xt is gonna massacre it soon. Are they saving it for the refresh? Or for the 87xx cards?

@Dan you know why it's only 128 bit? Because they underestimated ati this time(ATI did the same thing last gen) Dont worry man the G9x's are around the corner.

256bit = way too high memory bandwidth for a mid-end card . ATi's HD 2600 XT sounds great , but ATi really messed up with the HD 2600 Pro cards .

I just bought this card with my new rig a month ago and I gotta say it rocks.

I bought the MSI OC one with the radeon-red and dual slot cooling solution.

I can run FEAR on highest at 1152x864 and even in the most hectic situations[8vs8 people in a all out firefight in the same room], my frames never drop below 28, EVER.
Not too mention when I'm just running around with no people it caps at 75fps.

It may be slightly overpriced[ I payed 175, it's 168 atm], but it's definetly worth it for a mid-end build or if you don't have a beefy psu.

The 8600GTS's clock speeds are faster than an 8800GTS/X, some speeds are faster than those of an 8800 Ultra, but it has worse memory related specs. I think this is the best choice (especially the 512MB version) if you can't afford an 8800 series card.

Actually , the 8600 GT would be a better option , it's only SLIGHTLY slower than this and a lot cheaper .

At least you can be sure every GTS supports HDCP. That's not the case with the GT unfortunately.

To Radiator: It might be cheaper, but there's no 512MB GT version, and as ageha said, every GTS supports HDCP. I saw on the NVIDIA site that the Geforce 7900 and 7950 series are better than Geforce 8600...is this true??? I know that the 8600 supports DX10 while the 7 series do not, but I heard it has better *performance* than the 8600.

Never mind, since the GT does have 512 MB VRAM, but I still wonder about the Geforce 7 VS. Geforce 8.

It's a damn good card. I have it on my dual core 2.4 and it runs every game I've tried on max settings and its smooth as silk. I played FEAR at it's maximum settings at 1280*1024 and had 0% frames lost in a combat situation.

The 7900/7950 cards are faster than the 8600 cards . And 512MB vRAM isn't that important on these cards , because they don't have enough power to utilize it fully anyway .

So let me get this straight. This is one of the BEST DirectX 9 cards, but dies in DX10/10.1 gaming? What if I have two 512 MB versions and overclock them? Will this work for DX10 games like Flight Simulator X?

@PK7 It is a good DX10 card, but it is not great. If you have 2 in SLI you would probably have little to complain about unless you are wanting a gaming resolution above 1600x1200. But instead of getting two of these, try getting one of the new 8800 GT cards. They are a great value right now.

i've just bought one! i'm really satisfied with it. of course i'd love an 8800GTS but it's too expensive. and for all those who have stuff to say about ati cards: dudes... i had 2 ati cards (1 was top end card at its time) and i can honestly say ati sucks if u do the maths right. i'll buy an ati card when i start a game and it says "ati the way it's meant to be played" :))

I bought this this card two months ago, I bought Asus Silince EN8600GTS, I don't know if there's any major diffrence between my card and this one.
I completed lot of games on it
Crysis, Ghost Recon 2, Jericho, NFS Prostreet and fear
I had some problems with the damned Crysis, I found myself forced to run it on low in the last chapter, but Best res. was not a problem with the rest of this games,
it's a great card after all.

sorry for my english.

It's really outdated now that 9600GT/8800GS/3850/3870 cards are out. The 8600GTS was usually slower than the 7900GS (and hence slower than X1950Pro) on older games but usually runs better on the newer/shader heavy games. Not sure where everyone gets the idea that its faster than 7900GS/GT's from (except for some games) :)

Perhaps reviews like this one are the reason(http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTMyNCwxMiwsaGVudGh1c2lhc3Q=)
And those "other" games may be all that some people play.

I am getting this card in just over 1 week.

I've had a terrible history but I am a heavy gamer, i do play high and low end games.

I'll say what I think about this compared to my XFX 6800XT Xtreme 256mb PCI-C & 6800GT AGP & 7600GS AGP

I want to upgrade to the highest I can but this is the next step, in just over a week I'll test the card out and compare it to my terrible history and test it properly and see how it performs and i'll let you all know.

Thankyou
