7950 GT = 7800 GTX (512Mb).. except for lower memory clock.

Also, the 7950 GT can overclock MUCH better, and it costs much less.

Reason to buy: Almost no game needs 512Mb or RAM now, but they will in the near future, so if u need 512Mb and u want Nvidia then this card is better to get then the 7900 GTX, because it can easily overclock to it's clock speeds (with a better cooler and maybe a simple volt mod)

You can just buy a 7900 GT with 512Mb, but im not going to complicate this issue furthur.

All 7950 GTs are HDCP ready. There are no exceptions.

Track, correct me if im wrong, but this is just a 7900GT with a bigger stock cooler and an extra 100MHz. why do you think this things so great?

Because of the RAM. 512Mb means "futureproof", since games are only starting to use more then 256Mb.
Pay little attention to the core, all 7900s have a G71 and overclock to the same freaquency, however there are more chances it will overclock higher if it already overclocked a little - companies choose the ones that can overclock better for ever a slight overclocking, and the 7950 GT is like an overclocked edition of a 7900 GT, so its likely they just picked the good 7900 GTs, doubled the memory and called them 7950 GTs.

Its so great because it is a G71 (overclock to the same point) with 512Mb, so now u can get a 7900 GTX without paying extra for less known companies (forgive me, Gainward) to stick extra memory for a much higher cost.

The teaser at http://www.xfxforce.com/media/seriesSpecSheet/4d56cbb00d66764b010d85a9aad9001d/7950GT_comp202_NoDLW_b_A41.pdf says that the XFX PV-T71J-YHEX and PV-T71J-YHFX are passively cooled. If true, brilliant for an HTPC.

XFX says its Extreme model's memory runs at 750 (1.5GHz) but all the reviews say it is 730 (1.46GHz). We are going to go with 730, maybe XFX was rounding up and using only 2 digits on their site.

the 7950 GT does require an external power supply cable (6-pin), the one im trying to hunt down and buy is the EVGA eG-force 7950 GT KO Superclock edition because the memory is 512 (like usual), it has a copper heatsink which runs at better temperatures, and it has a core clock (600Mhz) speed equal to the 7900 GTX. the current card im running is an EVGA eG-force 7600 GT KO (w/ copper heatsink). its running at 580 Core and 1500 Memory with only 256 MB and 128-bit.

But recently i have found on tigerdirect a video card that is more cheap and has more power than the 7950 GT. it is the EVGA eG-force 7900 GTO, it looks like the 7900 GTX but it has a 650 Core and a 1320 Memory. it still has 512 MB and 256-bit. this new card is 30-40 dollars cheaper than the 7950 im plannin on gettin.

If you are getting this card go with gigabyte, it comes equiped with a zalman heatsink. The downside being that it takes up 2 slots cause its pretty chunky! but with it you can raise those clocks to some good speeds and keep cool. ALSO its not powered by the 6pin connector, it actually has a female for for a 4 pin molex (the same that power ur optical and hard disks etc) at the rear of the card incase ur motherboard doesnt have a 6pin.
Also it seems widely beleived that the 7950gt is just a stock overclocked 7900gt... This isnt the case, its actually got legitimately faster clocks.

Edit: it actually has a MALE for a 4 pin molex

The 7950GT is nothing more than the 7900GT with another 100MHz on the core and still a full 100MHz away from 7900GTX/7900GTX speeds. Not all boards came with 512MB, 256MB versions were still very popular. Nevertheless, was still a great card and a great value. Would have been interesting to see eVGA develop a 'Signature Series' edition of the 7950GT like they did with the original 7900GT.
