GT has lowered significantly already! In my local area it's only $20-$30 above 9600GT price which is brilliant. To get 'The Witcher' is a brilliant deal too! SLI 8800GT would be fairly futureproof....

I'm not so sure about HD 3870X2 ... There's just something about it that seems "too" good. In Australia it starts at $600 and goes up to $800 or so. I mean, do we have any conclusive evidence to say...

Yeah well, i'm getting it because it's apparntly better HD Audio quality than the Asus HD Audio. If it increases performance, well even better!

I can get it cheap at $190-ish (AUD)

No way! 1GB easy, i've got 1GB (obvious due to my sig) but I still find it slow.

With 1GB and the 2600XT you should be able to play C&C 3 and AoE 3 with not problems at 1024x768 (at least)

Also...

Radeon X1650 XT no doubt about it is better
However as previously said, bigger PSU,
If you can afford/find a 32/35/3700+ AMD 939 would also be brilliant
And more RAM! Rammage is very important

The dilema of Videocards.

More Money = Better Quality
I'm going to say, you wont get far playing PS 3. games with a 128-bit GDDR 2 card.

As always recommended a 450W PSU and either X 1950 Pro or...

Ha, Congrats mate.

Depends on what Motherboard you have.

AGP = X1650XT/X1950Pro

PCI-E = 3870 or 8800GT

For maximum performance is rather debatable between HD 3870 X2 and 8800 Ultra (I'm basing...

Firstly it is a good card. For AGP systems anyway.

I would say, a larger PSU (450W - at least) and a X1650XT, it should be fine for running 1024x768 or 1280x1024 for older-games, if not a...

I'd much rather the Gigabyte-3870-B (the stock cooler) so the hot air goes out of the computer and not circulating around thank you. (However Stock cooler model is $10 more expensive @ $300 or so)

256mb/128bit @ 1680x1050 ... on CoD 4? no way. Gotta run it low. Odd though I booted it up a few hours ago and it crashed, my desktop was forced to like 4-bit colour. and it said 'out of memory' and...

How long ago were we saying we wouldn't need a 128-bit/256-bit ?
Very valid point about the good solid core however. The 3870 >is< a good step in the right direction, price cutting Nvidia :D
