Hd4670, Hd4830, Hd4850?

My possible choices right now are these three, HD4670, HD4830 or the HD4850.

Ideally I could afford a 19" LCD monitor, 22" max, but that will make the 4850 HIGHLY UNLIKELY as an option.

Also the difference in price of the 4830 from the 4670 is the same as the difference in price of the 4850 from the 4830, so it's really entirely down to specifications, features, overclocking, etc.

Currently I'm preferring the 4830 but I would like others' opinions on this. ;)

And those 3 cards I've mentioned are certainly a VERY BIG step up from my current card. :p

So which card should it be?

This is all under assumption that the rest of your specs are above average in order to even consider the hd 4850. The 4830 is a good choice. But if you are upgrading to a larger monitor in the near future, then i suggest the 4850.

I'm looking at an Intel Core 2 Quad 9400/9550 CPU, MSI P45 Zilent M/B, 2GB RAM. With 500W PSU, perhaps I can make it 650W-750W too to make Crossfire viable. Anyway my first choice is the 4830 because I can use it for now, then come 2010 perhaps I've saved enough to make an upgrade. The 4850 might be a bit expensive already for an initial purchase.

But perhaps I can still up it a bit and choose the 4850 now...the 4870 even? But the price increase from 4830 to 4850 is less than the increase from 4850 to 4870.

If it's financially viable , get the HD 4870 , it'll last until 2010 , and won't become a problem in games , especially with a 19" screen .
And 500W PSU - which 500W PSU ? I'd suggest a Fortron one , haven't heard anything but good about Fortron .

For that system I'd definitely suggest the 4850.

Really the only reason I would suggest the 4870 if you're on a such a close budget is if you're planning on getting a higher resolution monitor - then I'd say that the 4870 is a worthwhile investment. All that memory bandwidth really kicks it hard at higher resolutions.

So I might be getting the Core i7 920 instead. MSI Eclipse M/B and then the HD4870. I may be able to get a 22" monitor too. Forgot to add, I'll still be able to buy this only next month, latter half of March to be exact. I'm expecting some price decreases by then. Thanks for the replies thus far.

yes but the i7 doesn't perform that much better than the q9550 or q9650

and you have to have 3 sticks of memory so you have to get 3 gb or 6 gb
its weird (or 9 gb or 12 gb)

It's not really a question of size, it's a question of maximum resolution.

If you're going to be going for 1680x1024 or higher then the 4870 will help you out a lot.

As for the RAM... again it is a question of maximum resolution. The 4870 will definitely benefit from having a full gb to address, but it won't really kick in hard until you get into high resolutions at high settings and complex or large environments and textures.
