I was hoping someone could offer some advice on what video card that I should upgrade to. I currently have a ATI Radeon X600 XT 128mb PCI express graphics processor. I was considering the ATI X1900 XTX or the Nvidia Geforce 7900 GTX and was unclear as to which is better. The ATI card has a higher rate of shader operations and fragment pipelines, and the Nvidia card has a higher texture fill rate, and texture units. Which is of more vital importance? I want to be able to play the games I play with "Highest Quality" enabled. Examples of them would be Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Quake 4, Doom 3, FEAR, Half Life 2, Everquest. I will give a list of my computer specifications:

OS - Windows Xp Home
Processor - Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHZ 1mb cache 800mb FSB LGA775
Monitor - BenQ FP731 17'' LCD
Ram - 1024mb DDR PC3200 Low Latency
Hard drive - 80GB 8mb cache serial ATA
Motherboard - Asus P5GD1-VMGL 915G
Video - ATI Radeon X600 XT 128mb pci express
Cdrom - 52/32/52 DVD/CDRW combo drive
Power Supply - Enermax ATX 460 watt

Between the 7900GTX and the X1900XTX, the X1900XTX is faster, especially in Oblivion.

The only reasons to go for a 7900GTX are SLi (which I prefer to CrossFire) and it's a lot quieter and cooler...if you don't care about this stuff though, the X1900XTX is definitely the faster card.

Go with 7900GTX ..its not faster than X1900XTX but if youre planing on using SLi in the future id reccomend it. You might also want to do a bit of upgrading to your CPU cause wit dat 1 mg cache it wont be dat good......
