I bought a new pc a few months ago and bought a saphire 3870 with the intention of eventually doubling it up in crossfire once the card got cheaper i went to the store the other day to find that the card isnt the same. mine is red and takes 2 slots and new one is blue and takes one i asked a few people if i could still put them in crossfire and i am getting yes's and no's from everyone. so my question is can i?

The cards are prettymuch identical... but why on earth would anyone put a single slot cooler on a HD 3870 ?
However , they should work in crossfire .
Edit: Are you sure you weren't looking at HD 3850 cards ?
Oh by the way , you can put any ATi cards of the same core in CrossFireX , like a HD 3870 and a HD 3850 or HD 4870 and HD 4850 . Not too sure about two cards that have entirely different cores , though .

Well you can safely put them in CF . But I'd suggest you change that single slot cooler to a dual slot one , that blows hot air out of the case... because CF setups tend to get quite warm .

Two 3870's will work in CrossFire just fine, no matter the brand. If it is possible to get the dual-slot cooler I would suggest doing so.
