Well , if they make it perform as good as the HD 3870 , then it's a win in the mid-range aswell .

Hi there

Don't suppose you could translate those 3D Mark results you have linked to, so that eegits like me can understand them?

Cheers

Closer to the 3850 than the 3870 actually. Still a good card if it's less than $100.

Well yeah , between the HD 3850 and HD 3870 .
Hence the +/- in the thread's title .

It'd better be priced well.
I can get an HD3850 for just over $80 even here in Canada

Oh and why the heck did they use a DDR2 version of the 3850 as a comparison?

There is a DDR2 version of that card out ?
Edit : I didn't notice that , when I first posted it ... DDR2 is ... crap .

Do correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the HD4650s will all be DDR2 so perhaps that's the reason?

This is probably the first time I have been actively waiting for a computer component of any sort to be realeased! So I'm not familiar with timescales.....how long is it likely to be until we see reviews and benchmarks of the 46xx cards? And how do the releases by the different manufacturers (MSI, Sapphire, etc.) work? Are they likely to release cards at the same time, or more staggered? Do you think passive versions will be available from the off?

I'm unable to use my new PC until I get a gpu - hence all the questions. Currently considering a passive 9600GT (with a bent accelero! - see my other thread), HD3850, HD3870, and these new HD46**s.

Well , if the HD 4650's will all come in DDR2 , they are all completely useless for people who want to play games aswell .
I just think they wanted to show the RV730 cards in a better light .
Oh and from what I've heard , they are coming in 128bit memory buses , so I hope the HD 4670 will come in GDDR5 .

From what Ive read the 4650 will be GDDR2, the 4670 will be GDDR3. Is that bad news then? I dont know much about all this, but does that have anything to do with how they have managed to make these cards so efficient in terms of consumption and heat?

I'm starting to think the 3870 might be the card for me. All depends on how good the commercially available passive ones are. If they are effective at keeping the heat down, then I think I will go for it (especially if the Sapphire single slot version is good).

I've got some reading to do.......

From later news , it seems the HD 4670 is 10-15% slower , than the HD 3850 and the HD 4650 is 50% slower... 128 bit interface is the single biggest mistake they made .
