I didn't know these cards (GeForce 9500GT) were released yet, but I found one sitting on the shelf of a local Staples. Does anyone know how they perform compared to older cards, say the 8600GT or 2600XT? I'm hoping they might turn out to be a decent low end card. I didn't pick one up as they're overpriced right now at $150, which really makes no sense compared to the (I'm assuming) vastly superior and lower-priced 9600GT or even the 9600GSO.

EDIT: Here's a link to it on the Staples website: http://www.staples.com/office/supplies/p4__233570_Business_Supplies_1_10051_SC3:CG6:DP198 5:CL140474

i thought u already have an 8800gt? (ur sig says so)
i wouldnt know the performance of it, but i would think its a bit faster than both 8600gt and the 2600xt.

An EVGA 9500GT is now for sale at the egg, for a reasonable price, ($70). I still haven't been able to find any decent benchmarks for it. I'm wondering if it's any better than a 8600GTS, or the x1950pro thats in my secondary computer.

EDIT: Found a review: http://en.expreview.com/2008/05/06/review-nvidia-geforce-9500gt/1/ It seems that at stock speeds the 9500GT is slightly less powerful than a 8600GTS, but the 9500 can be OC'd pretty high and achieve better than 8600GTS performance.

That's because it basically IS a 8600 GT .

According Nvidia, the 9500 GT is 3 times as fast as the 8500 GT. ;)

According to reviews , it's just under the 8600 GTS = it's a 8600 GT , with some minor tweaks , and a die shrink .

It's slightly weaker than the 8600GTS

For it's price range, an 8800GS would be much better

Well , a 8800 GT would be a better choice and would cost just slightly more , actually .

I couldn't imagine spending close to the price of an 8800 GT and getting half the performance.

My suggestion: save up the extra 20 bucks and buy either an 8800GT or a 9800GT and overclock the smack out of them. Check newegg for the best deals.

Nv shouldnt rename their products... its a bit unprofessional... and they should make GTX200 series accesable to mainstream as well.... i would give anything to have a GTX 220 let's say  tht supports physx and has 128 SP for example

128 SP = G80/92 core , basically .
NVidia has already lost .
ATi's HD 4850 is the best midend card there is ( mid-end pricewise ) .
And the HD 4870 isn't midend , but its faster , than the GTX260 , and the HD 4870 X2 slaughters the GTX280 . I doubt nVidia has anything up it's sleeve at this point .
