Ok I might be stuck in this situation to choose from between this card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130318
and this card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127325.

What you guys think?

Thank you,

The 8800 GTS 512MB is faster , but that really depends on if you want to save your money for something else or not... the 8800 GT 512MB is quite fast and very cheap .

BROKEN LINKS^^^

Here's what I found for GT and GTS:

GTS:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127325

GT:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143118

Personally I'd say you should go with the GTS. There isn't enough of a price difference anymore.

Yeah if you are looking for the better performance of the two then the GTS is the way to go. You will have better overclocking head room with the bigger fan on the GTS too.

I'd say GTS just for the superior fan setup, you'd probably have to put a new fan on the GT anyways. :)

The GT fan works fine, you just need to use something like rivatuner to set the fan speed above 20%.

But if you're worried about that:

MSI 8800GT OC:

I'd still say that the price difference isn't enough to justify it though. But Radiator is right, it does depend on what you want to do with the system.

You'd have to set the fan on the 8800 GT VERY high... because it's a single slot cooler , it pushes air on the card and not out of the PC ... so a new cooling solution is a must , in my opinion .

Having first hand experience with the GT and it's cooling, I would have to disagree Radiator. I currently have the fans on my GTs running about 45% all the time. I cannot hear them, and they idle at 38*C and 40*C. Load only puts them close to 50*C but never over 51-52*C. And having a case fan blow cool air into the intakes on the cards helps, but not as much as I you think (cools them down maybe 1-2*C).

I'm just posting what reviewers have written , mate .
Are you using the stock 1 slot coolers ?

I say it this way the 8800GT is the "sweet spot", while the 8800GTS 512Mb is the "even sweeter spot" and would now-a-days be the starting point where one leaves “mainstream” and moves up to “fanatical”.
That's what the $40-50 really spends, a few more FPS and a higher epithet … so which do you aspire to?

Yes I am. I'll look for the pics I took.

Okay... because I remember reading that those cards are about as hot as the HD 2900 XT (well , a bit cooler , but still hot) with the stock cooler .

I've read multiple reviews where the GT with stock cooling went over 90*. It was originally an issue with the BIOS where the fan was set to not speed up until a very high heat (by normal standards) and then not go to as high of a speed when the fan does kick in. They did this because the fan is a leafblower at 90-100% fan speed.

Later GT's have a modified fan table in the BIOS that corrects the problem. The card will still heat up after an extended stress test, but like Avalanche said, good cooling in the case does help. Especially since the GT exhausts back into the case. I would have to say avalanche's case is out of the ordinary because its been far different with all the GT's ive ever seen.

My buddy has an 8800 GTS 512, and the cooling on that is very acceptable. He also has a very well ventilated case (250mm fan sucking air off the card as another 250mm fan pours cold air on it). With fan set at 100% (which isnt noisy on the GTS) he idles at 38* and 45* at load. I was stunned!

(My cards idle at 56-58*.... grrrr)

Right now, there is such a small price difference between the two of them I would just go for the 8800 GTS 512. It'll cost between $20-30 more (after rebate), and you get some extra SP's, TMU's and a solid cooler. Im planning on doing this myself actually so there ya go. :D

Yep... the 8800 GTS 512MB is much more silent , because of the dual slot cooler .
The 8800 GT's cooling however is a pain , as Headfoot mentioned... a leafblower at the speed where it actually gets the cooling job done and if you want it silent , your card will literally bake .
