Anybody out there juice'n a GS referance board? I'm trying to figure out if any of the cast-off GT production chips actually provides sufficant headroom. Also I heard others say the XFX referance version uses and use Qimoda 1.4ns can anyone confirm? Would anyone consider 16-18% increase to get similar to the "factory OC" verison within posiblity?

I don't think there's much headroom in the 8800 GS... considering it's a severely chopped down version of the 8800 GT ... but then again it's just my opinion .

Yea, heard a few getting good results, while most others find they're limited.
Here two reviews the first appear Evga sent less than "production" unit... read the forms::confused:

While this seems more in line with other stuff I'm reading...

Neither of these are in the GPUreview Comparison maybe they could be added?
I wouldn't necesssarily trust the techpowerup review. It looks like they got the 3870x2 to UNDERPERFORM the 8800GT in several cases.
Crysis notably... and in UT3 it looks like... well it looks like BS.

That's got a lot to do with their lazyness . Half the reviewers don't want to get new drivers/hotfixes . SO you can't really trust reviews that much . Especially on ATi cards , where drivers make a HUGE difference .
I thought it looked like they only did one run-through on most of the games.

They usually do that aswell , though .
Then it won't return an accurate result.
NOT a good way to run a benchmark.

Some reviewers test around 10 cards on 15 different games...
Changing cards + drivers can be a major pain in the arse imo .

I’d concur poweruptech.com has a strange way of throwing in results for a bunch of useless old stuff. What are 2400’s and 8500 doing there other than show big chart, sure a legacy card like a 7600GS or 1950Pro for reference but, even that quite dated. Plus they appear to show only the high FPS not an average or the low, providing all the info can bring to light some of the driver issues. Then there the power consumption numbers shown, they don’t have the 3850 256Mb numbers, while notice they have a 3850 1024Mb shown. Also, I would have thought a 3870 512Mb (idle) are further apart than only the +15W they’re showing a 8800GT.
Very Sketchy
