I went to do some PC parts shopping when I saw some 10,000RPM hard disk. I was shocked by the price they had, a 37GB actually cost more than a 400GB HDD 7200RPM. The 76GB one even worst, it cost like around the price of a 750GB 7200RPM HDD. The RPM is just slightly higher and the price and disk space had so much difference. Why is it so expensive? Doesn't seem to make sense to me

My guess is that it does not.. Just like the new ASUS Extreme N8800GT 1GB over the 512MB...

That's bloody expensive , really . I'm not sure what's the point of a 10000 RPM harddrive though .

I've heard that the transfer rate will be faster, like copying files, loading games etc. What's the point spending so much money for a slightly faster transfer rate, it won't affect in-game performance anyway. I don't mind waiting a little longer, I'm very happy with my 320GB S-ATA 7200RPM

10,000 RPM are for rich fags who sleeps in a bed of money. The cash is better off spent on more HD space or better GPU.

I'm sure 10000 RPM HDs have their uses... but it's not better than a 7200 RPM one for gaming atleast .

Better off setting up a RAID array IMO.
Well let me tell you my friend im not either rich or a fag but i still have 2 Western Digital Raptors RAID (stripe) connected and I'm really pleased with them. Loading Windows is like 1 2 3 for them. Those things are REALLY fast, and if ur going for speed Id highly recommend them, but if ur looking for disk space (in other words volume rather than speed) don't buy them and stay with the old 7200 rpm drives.
P.S. 15k rpm HDs have hit the market but still TOO expensive; Seagate Cheetah 15K - 300GB is 700$ in US which means this thing costs a lot more in EU but still has Average Latency: 2ms and Cache: 16MB ..... Fast and Furious :)

Well , Windows loads up fast enough for me with my 7200 RPM drives , so I'm happy .
And for 700 USD , I could buy a bloody computer... and not a too crappy one either .

That is insane. I wish I could have one ;) WHat is crazy is that they are faster then the 10K and they have more space then the 10K. But still interesting. I haven't seen anyone in there specs claim that they have one though. In all the forums that I look at.

If you're looking for reviews , try google , mate .
See guys if u're a coputer enthusiast u'd probably buy those... there are many ppl changing the processors gpus or other parts on their computers as soon as a new replacement comes out... tho it seems most of them are americans :( I still dont understand why those ppl have such low prices. The prices they get are the same we do but in $ instead or EUR or pounds... the exchange rate is much lower so they are basically getting them up to 30% cheaper but still have high living standart... as far as the rewievs are considered u can possibly refer to newegg and read some there.. I've detected fake comments there before so think carefully before relying on some1's comment or review. Cheers!
PS: For the RAID h8rs: setting up RAID is pain in the ass so i guess ur happy ppl all of u non RAID-ers :)

I hate shopping from local stores... riddiculously high prices... Something funny I discovered , though.. an X1950 Pro AGP costs more than a HD 3850 AGP in local stores here... hahah .

Ironically, the Radeon X1950XTX is more expensive then the Radeon HD3870 here. The Radeon X850XT CrossFire Edition is as expensive as a Radeon X1950XT here.

I know companies like HP invest in these kind of drives for their servers.
