When I went to the PC store, they have sell varieties of graphic cards, but mostly were 256MB GDDR*, like 8600GT 256MB GDDR3, HD3850 256MB GDDR3 etc.... the 512 MB ones were slightly more expensive. Is 256MB really enough nowadays? I got a friend who is using a Radeon X1550 256MB GDDR and complaining not enough memory, like in games they have error like not enough video memory.....

No , 256MB is VERY low . And your friend with an X1550... his problem lies within his piece of shit GPU , rather than the low amount of vRAM . 256MB is more than enough for that piece of crap .
Get the 512MB card for sure .

8800 GT or a HD 3870... The 8800 GT costs more , but they are both bloody cheap and quite fast .

You didn't read my first post in this thread , did you ?
No , it is not enough to run newer games than on low-ish settings and no AA .
But then again , you cannot simply say yes or no... it's much more complicated than that . Depends on what you play , depends on the resolution , depends on if you want to use AA , depends on the card itself and so on .
But for a HD 3850 , 256MB is not enough.. it rather cripples it .
