8500gt or 8600gt?

for HD video, get a Radeon HD2600XT

Get a HD 2600 Pro for only video watching... better for that than the 8600's or the 8500's .

For HDCP/x264 related stuff i'd say go radeon. if you can wait a bit longer try and hold out for the 3670 (should be cheap and on basis of HD 2600XT should also have good digital media playback).

If you're wanting to sneak in a game here and there aswell i'd say a 8600GT (256mb GDDR3)
