Building a system

What card(s) should I get in the $300 range?
I mostly play Half life II mods and Team Fortress 2.

Half Life 2 runs quite well on my X1600 Pro , on the highest settings and maximum resolution . However , if you want to play newer games aswell , either get a GeForce 8800 GT or a Radeon HD 3870 .

That's a good card, but a Radeon HD3870 would be cheaper, but I don't know if it beats the 8800GT, the Radeon HD3870 beats 8800GT in everything except in Texture Operations....

Yeah the 3870 does have good specs compared to the 8800 GT but the GT wins in benchmarks and does even better with Anti Aliasing so you made a good choice.
