Hello. my brother has a dell dimension 3000. i found out he has an intel 82865g graphics controller for the video card. im wondering, what is an affordable upgrade? i have a dimension 8400 with the already installed radeon x300 and think that would be enough for him as well. he rarely plays games on his computer but came across age of empires 3 (which gives a video card error). i've checked newegg and found some x300s going for about $50+.

what im thinking is should i give my brother my x300 and buy myself a new video card because i play pc games almost all the time. i am 100% fine with the x300 and wouldnt mind an upgrade but i dont feel like shelling out more than about $80. i've seen the x550 for around $70+ but would that be much of an upgrade or should i just stick with the x300? i play relatively low demanding games such as cs 1.6, starcraft, and warcraft 3.

thank you for your help!

I'd try to find an XFX GeForce 6600 with DDR2 memory...they're under a hundred bucks, overclock like crazy, and give quite decent game performance.

Like you said, the games you play are not very demanding. If you like the way the games run now, then it's a waste of money to upgrade. Now, if you're lagging, or you want to play with higher settings, then this is the best $80 retail card I found with a quick scan of newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814125003

Unless of course you can find that 6600 DDR2 somewhere in your price range.
