Hi there,I recently purchased an Nvidia 8600GT from the Gigabyte Manufacturer.
This card is not equipped with a fan and instead relies on a passive cooling solution.

When I first started out with this card it got up to very high temperatures (almost 90C on Oblivion) and this got me concerned.
Since then i've added an additional exhaust fan (120MM) and idle temps dropped from 53C to 48C-49C and load temps have dropped as well from nearly 90C to around 75C.

My question to you forum goers is if my current temperatures are safe. I only play for around an hour at a time (by then i usually get bored or worried). I am afraid that if i play for more my temperature could rise much higher and possibly damage my newly purchased GPU.

BTW: Im just practicing my formal english (hope its formal enough), and why are these forums so dead?? Thanks to all replies.

For the 8600 GT / GTS , 90 degrees is within safe limits .
But yeah... a fan is a better idea than passive cooling .

You might want to consider a thermal solution change for your card...

You could get an aftermarket cooler that will put you temp issues to rest and get you some overhead to OC if you wanted to...

IMHO - Passive cooling is OK for the office or home theater rigs, but have no place in a gaming or editing system...
