I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of people on these boards have nVidia or ATI, however, I'm wondering what else is out there - is there some wonder product we're missing because of the marketing, as hard as that might be to believe given the number driven nature of GPUs?

I know S3 and Via still have a few cards, and of course Intel have their built in sets, but are there other serious contenders? I know Matrox has left to happily persue their very profitable Pro line (which I've used at work, and they're very nice for broadcast level tasks) but where are the new contenders? Seems like a long time since 3dfx ruled and ATI played catch up...

nVidia and ATi are the only two companies capable of keeping up the pace that's necessary to compete in high end 3d graphics...

S3 has some low end parts, but their drivers aren't that great...and Matrox still makes multi-display professional 2d cards...but yeah, NOBODY can compete with nVidia and ATi when it comes to mainstream to high end graphics cards...the two companies have successfully eliminated all other competition

Actually, the company where I worked had multiple displays before it was sexy in the mainstream, about 8 years ago (probably longer). We used Colorgraphics if I remember (Colorgraphics.net (http://www.colorgraphic.net/newsite/misc/home.html)
. I think now it's mostly Matrox varieties. I know this isn't game, or 3D related, but I thought I'd throw that in.

very cool indeed...I wonder if these are the cards used in the systems at www.9xmedia.com

I may need to see about adding those cards to the database...
