As the topic states, i've currently got an AGP 9550. I'm going to upgrade my entire system sometime soon but cannot immediately afford a new PCI-E video card, so i'm going to slum it on the onboard for a while.

The current MOBO i'm looking to buy has an onboard
NVIDIAŽ GeForce 6100 / nForce 405 chipset
and all that i'm worried about is that it will be at least comperable to my 9550 in regards to shader versions and the like. I dont mind using the onboard for a while, but i dont want to be getting this partial upgrade, and NOT be able to run games i could before the upgrade.

I could not find the 6100 in your review list, so i dont know where it stands.

Thanks.

"nForce 405 chipset" sounds like one of Asus's made up chipsets. I wish they just told us the name of the NB and SB instead of inventing terms...

anyways, I suggest you look into AMD 690 instead. Just as powerful, and cheaper (usually).

as for which will perform better, I might give a slight edge to the Radeon. But considering the wealth of extra features that 690 or 6100 have (SM3.0, better video decoding, PCI-e (and as such newer socket)) I would suggest going with one of them.

and as i just posted, the 8400GS (http://www.gpureview.com/geforce-8400-gs-card-529.html) looks to be an excellent econo gamer card, playing CS:S at decent settings.
