Intel's gonna get in the gpu business(CGpu's to be exact)
http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=37548

What do you guys think? Will they be a legitamite challenger to Nvidia and Ati(Amd)? Or will this fail like all the other intel mini projects.(Too many to list you know what i'm talking about)

If Intel really wants to go toe to toe with nVidia and ATi they should be quite capable of doing so. It's just hard for me to imagine them putting the necessary time in to beat out a company like nVidia who's soul purpose in the world is to make fast video cards...

I'll believe it when I see it.

I'll believe it when I see it.Ditto. However, what The Inq says does seem to add up: if Intel just cuts the GPU out and just goes right to CPGPU, then they're already in the game. AMD will do it first (08-09?) with Fusion, and a few years later (probably more like 2010 or '11) Intel will do it better.

Mike Intel has the motivation(Ati's sellout to Amd and Nvidia refusing to sell out at all) They are just having some problems with the Architecture it's self. I dont know the details but it has something to do with getting the shaders to do the specified shader op since in dx10 all shaders have a unified instruction set.(With dx9 it would be alot easier) Well anyway i cant wait for another player in the gpu business.

Liquid My bet is on Nvidia since they pioneered it with amd before the break-up.
Nvidia just needs an x86 license. Btw those 128 shaders on the g80 just 4 of them would be enough to challenge a core 2 e6300 in some apps.(How? Simple Nvidia has a few former intel engineers who worked on pentium m before they left so they know c2's weakness)

If Intel is serious about it, all they have to do is throw money at all the people in nVidia's Beaverton office and their upcoming Portland Design Centre and see just how loyal they are to nVidia. After all, Intel has upwards of five campuses in the Portland/Beaverton/Hillsboro area, so it's not like they couldn't devote one to graphics and just transfer people--instead of the usual laying off--to a different campus.

Ya but you forget one thing about that! Money wont make them switch back! A few people i know tell me what hell it was to work for intel, Alot went to Amd in the early 90's and a few went to Nvidia.
