Hi all! I left the card next to a cell phone for a while and when i plugged it back it seems gone forever. Nothing turns on the screen, even the beep mobo when something is wrong. I thougt cell phones only crashes pendrives, floppys and so, not 3dcards:( any idea? I am convinced thereīs nothing to do and the card is r.i.p.

I thought that the bios could be corrupted or erased, and i restored it with flashrom. No changes, windows starts but nothing on the screen. I tryed another monitor and nothing. I tryed another card and the pcie slot is ok.
Cell phones are definetively a danger

Yes, i left it on the table, but it is a wood table, no metal parts. the only metal staff was a screwdriver and the damn cellphone.

Bingo! Sorry dude but your card is FRIED! Same happened to me with my 9250. The table it's self will fry the card but not instantly The cell phone might have contributed to it's demise a bit quicker.

He's right! I left Voodoo 3 3000 near a washing machine once and the damn thing wouldnt stop channeling issaic newton. In 2 years it became the world's most renowned mathmetician.
Also, i left my Geforce 2 Ultra beside a picture of john clives singing "good night moon" and it transformed into a black hole.

I aint joking track. A graphics card will fry if you put it on the table! I dont know why but it happened to me twice (Once with my 9250 and once with my fx5200) If he left it on something that was on the table then he would'nt be here.

No i meant if you leave any computer part on a table unprotected it will fry. Not if you put it in a pc and not if you put it on an anti static bag.

I know it's kinda noobish but it's true. When i was building my current pc i put the memory on the anti static bag on the table and it was fine while 2 years ago when i built a pc for the first time i left my 9250 on the desk for about 5 minutes before i put it in my pc and it fried.

I donīt really know what to think. the fact is that a week ago 1gb ram ruined too just changing from 1 pc to another and i also left it on the table but with no phones around. The pc start reseting with no apparent reason an a ram tester detected a pair of reading-writing errors. I think that maybe itīs me, a am used to rub my feet when i walk and when i touch anything of metal, like a metal car door i allways get a spark because of the static.I will start using an anti-static clip that i have somewhere just in case. Damn it!

No, the floor has no carpet or staff like that, just single floor tiles. I know that with carpet static occurs much more but is the only explanation i guess..
any more static bad experiences around guys?

Thatīs allways the same, you only watch out till you first burn...sucks a lot what happented you with your ram!I really got a jackass face when i saw what it happened with the card just for not leaving into the damn anti-static bag. By the way, impossible to get it Rmaīed, i did some experiments that avoid any warranty. i removed the fan and the plastic parts and i attached the great passibe cooler of an IBM pII processor with a metalic paste, and an Asrock mobo chipset passive aluminium cooler on the other side, besides of some copper ram disspipators that i found around. The card looks like a metalic spiky abobination , but silent like a whisp, perfect for my day and night working Emule pc .Now i removed it and the card looks like Nestle chocolate barr half covered by mud. Thank you very much anyway, david

Altough this threat is very very long ago, I'll try to answer. Table ruining the graphic card.... in my opinion may be caused by static electricity which damages your graphic, that why put it on a concrete floor where there's very little static electricity.
Anyway I've seen some of Track's replies and sounds very offensive in almost every threat, no wonder he got banned....
lol, I love the way he argued with our dear GPUreview founder Mike in this threat: http://www.gpureview.com/forums/showthread.php?t=263&page=3 and he got Fed up and closed the threat...
Anyway sorry Mike for making you recalling unhappy past....:(

Maybe he's got banned from GPUreview now, look at his replies to almost all threats, almost everyone are offensive, maybe Mike got pissed and banned him

To be honest , I don't really care... and I don't see why you even dug up this thread .
It is kind of funny though, table frying a card. You'd have to have one hella powerful cell phone signal to affect an x850.
He must have shocked the thing unintentionally.
