I installed my x1950 and my drivers but now whenever I use my computer its flashes to a black screen and when the signal is back my screen freezes. I dont know if its because of my psu ( 500w ) or because of my memory ( 1G RAM) but it never happened before today. help :P

Open your case, look at the sticker on the PSU, it should look similar to (leeching from Google image search, so technically not leaching :)) this (http://choyer.free.fr/Vente/Alim1.jpg).

Under the +12v, you need to have a value higher than 38A (if it's a single rail, if you have +12v1 and +12v2, then they need to combine to be 38A or greater), but preferably at least 25 amps on it/each. If you have a 4-pin (molex) to 6-pin (pcie) adapter, make sure it's a 2xmolex, because the 1xmolex will probably under-power the card--unless the company shipped you a 1-1, as opposed to you buying a 1-1 over a 2-1 or something of that nature.

This is 100% a PSU problem, because your 500w is probably of the type where they don't report the conditions under which they reached this 500w rating, and they probably list the peak wattage over the consistent wattage. Another example of how you end up with a shitty 500w PSU is when they design it with parallel 36a lines going on the 5v and the 3.3v line (which is--if you go off peak wattage--about 300w right there) and only drop another 18a on the 12v rail, which won't be enough to power 1HD, 1DVD and 1 video card by any stretch of the imagination. There's another thread on here somewhere where I point out some excellent PSUs for somewhere under $150 that give you plenty of room for expandability for future HDDs or video cards.

Yeh, its a PSU problem. Havnt we been over this? You know what to get.

But NO, u dont need 38A for an X1950 Pro.
And NO, adding up the Amps on the rails does NOT give u the total ammount.

Kipps, go ahead and skip to the past paragraph here.

Track, exactly what was your point in posting that? Do you have some sort of compulsion to be the only person who provides any helpful information on this site? Christ, all you do is provide mis-information and completely useless information to everyone who asks a question on here. You tell people how to do things that they weren't asking for help on, and push ATI cards like they're the only option available to people.

I know how to calculate the amperage rating on the entire 12v line, and considering that he was the same person I made my referenced post in, I didn't want to be a complete douche bag and play the, "Told you so!" card on him. You, on the other hand, seem to have no problem being a douche troll and posting about something absolutely unrelated to the topic at hand. I didn't word, "if you have +12v1 and +12v2, then they need to combine to be 38A or greater" properly by one word: effective. I put the value for the crossfire (38a) not the single card (30a), oops; shit happens. I am also well aware that the x1950pro will probably be just fine on a 20a line, but it's all entirely subjective, and we have no way of knowing for sure what else he's going to put on that same line. I posted what AMDTi recommends because, quite frankly, he's already got a supply that isn't working, and I doubt he wants to deal with chancing it to save some money again. You can safely run 2 x1950xtx's on a Thermaltake Toughpower 600w, which has 4 18a rails that balance out to 48a, which exceeds the 38a that AMDTi recommends for the x1950xtx in Crossfire. It gets really tiring reading your posts where you pretend to know everything about everything and refuse to admit that, God forbid, you don't. Get over yourself and admit that you are not omniscience. You argue with Mike about video card related shit; fucking Mike, the guy who knows more about cards than anyone else here by far. </rant>

Kipps, your original post here (http://www.gpureview.com/forums/showthread.php?t=253) has some fair information that will help; like I said, you need to have a good PSU or your card will be underpowered and prone to random CPU shutdowns. It would have been easier to just buy a good PSU, but if you don't want to buy an entirely new main PSU, feel free to buy one of Track's favorite add-on PSUs for another $50 and have fun dealing with it: I hate add-on PSUs because they are just a pain in the ass, and yes, I do have first-hand experience with them. Thermaltake (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817153037)has one, as do the FSP Group (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817104019).

I need to find better things to do with my time when I'm ill. (c:
