Hello. First of all i want to thank you for the excellent video card comparison u've made on this side. I have a question about XFX 7800 GT PCI-E I couldnt find the aswer to , and I'd be happy if u could help me.
My first quiestion is : Are there any locked pipelines on the card mentioned above. And if there are how is it possible to unlock them on my both SLI connected cards.
The second quiestion is: Why would my cards stop working as good as they used to work when i first bought them. In case u know please put all the reasons u can think of excluding the dust reason (I just cleaned them 2 days ago but it just worked for 2-days then the temp went up again) so I can check them one by one. Thanks in advance and good luck to all !

OK I managed to unlock the card using Rivatuner and its now working at 24 pipelines and 8 shaders, but surprisingly to me the 3d mark06 score went down from 7321 to 6000-something... what do u think is the reason for that...? I havent touched the core or memory clock speed... yet :)

What I'm not sure about is wheather both cards are unlocked now... do those changes take effect on both of them after using Rivatuner or not?

You cannot unlock the pipelines on the 7800 GT. Rivatuner makes it seem like its unlocked but it isnt. Sorry.

http://www.hkepc.com/hwdb/7800gt-5.htm this site shows it can be unlocked somehow or I am getting something wrong?

What if i flash cards BIOS with another GTX BIOS ?

Of cource, it's possible that some of the disabled pipelines are not working ok, and that's because they're disabled and card is made for lower level than other, higher level cards based on this gpu.

(sorry, my english is not so good, so maybe you dont understand me. But i'll be better in future.

It is simply not possible to unlock any card released after the X800GTO. Flashing the BIOS won't work.

I have no idea what that review was talking about. As far as I have ever seen, it is 100% impossible to unlock a 7800GT.

Not that I dont trust u guys I respect ur skills and knowledge! Its just very confusing to figure out if something is true or false reading all the different opinions in different forums. I'm Bulgarian I won't give up that easy. :) Anyways if I dig something up (in which I kinda doubt) I'll definitely post A-Z instruction in the best way my skills in English allow me to do it! Good luck and if something shows up don't forget about my post :)

We are the best. You should trust us.

I doubt there is more than a 5% chance that that card can unlock, but know that u can get a better one for very cheap now adays compared to the 7800 GT.

It is impossible to unlock those pipes, and the reason is in the PCB. Nvidia doesnt just lock pipes to segment the market, by doing so they can produce cheaper PCBs and cheaper heat sinks.

No, you cannot unlock a 7800GT, infact I know of only one succesfully unlockable card (and only because i did it) a 6200 (non-TC) to a 6600. ghetto modded with a 12cm fan, you've got yourself a 6600GT.

The pipelines on the 7800 GT are laser-cut means... they cannot be unlocked .
