View Full Version : Can I run 7600GT with just 18amps on my 12V+ Rail?
Hi everyone, I'm planning to upgrade my videocard to Geforce 7600GT (Palit 7600GT Sonic), I have a generic 500Watts PSU (LC-B500E) which comes with the casing that I bought some time ago, it is said that its 12V+ rail only offers 18amps, my question now is can I run 7600GT with this limited amperage? I tried calculating thru the psu calculator and I found out that my system would only utilize something like 340+ Watts, but what I'm worried about is the 18amps on the 12V+ rail...
Does the 7600GT have a 6pin power socket for extended power...?
Can 7600GT handle 1440x900 LCD resolution?
The reason why I ask, is because good PSU are really rare and expensive here in my place...
Thanks much...

Ay! sorry, my current PC specification:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ (Socket 939)
nForce 6150 Motherboard
2GB PC3200 DDR1 RAM
3 SATA Harddisk (Seagate 250GB,250GB,80GB)
1 DVD-Write drive
2 250mm Casing fan for ventilation
Generic 500Watts PSU LC-B500E with 18amps on 12V+ rail
Running OS: Windows XP SP2
According to the PSU calculator this will run at 340+ watts if being combined with Geforce 7600GT...
Can the 7600GT run at 1440x900 LCD resolution?
Is my Generic 500Watts (LC-B500E) PSU ok for 7600GT upgrade?
Thanks much...
nVidia's control panel lets you set custom resolutions, so you should be fine...
And the 7600GT doesn't use an external power connector...power really shouldn't be an issue at all...
Thanks much, I was planning to upgrade my videocard to either Geforce 7950GT or x1950 XT 256MB, but when I realized that I really need to upgrade my PSU as well, I got a bit discouraged, since "Good" PSU are really hard to find here, and they are really expensive as well, so I decided to just upgrade to 7600GT, and the extra cash I would purchase a 19"LCD, and wait for DX10 cards to mature and their prices to drop, then go for a PSU + DX10 VC upgrade later, and maybe upgrade the mobo as well... :o
Thanks very mucho guys...!!! :D

The 7600GT takes about 3-4A so u should be fine.
Although u could just buy a 28A PSU and get the card that Mike has. They cant be that expensive.
Uh, i wouldnt buy the 19" widescreen, as 1440x900 is 16:10 and not too common. You shouldnt have too many problems, but 1280x1024 would be better IF u were going with a 19".
Oh, and buy a a 20"+ LCD as u cant upgrade from 19"-20" later on without buying a completely new monitor.
