Does anyone know how many tmu's the R600 will have? I heard it would be 16, If that is the case then... How will it compete with the 8900 set to be released at the same time?

This is just wild speculation...wait for something more concrete...nobody knows what R600 is going to do...and nobody knows when/if an 8900gtx will be released...

Ill give u my guess though..

The 7900 GTX was released a year after the 7800 GTX because it had no competition. The X1900XT was released 3 months after the X1800XT because it had too much competition.

If the X2800XT is so much better than the 8800 GTX, i think we will see an 8900 GTX sometime in Q1. If not then in Q2.
Why is this important? Because u have to time your purchase of the 8800 GTX just right so that the 8900 GTX comes out within 3 months of it, so that u can enjoy eVGA's trade-up deal.

Ive been giving this a lot of thought, and there is really no non-eratating way to buy a PC now - either u buy an 8800 GTX and am too early for the 8900 GTX, or u buy an X2800XT wich dosent have any trade-up program. Your motherboard choice will have to be either CrossFire (975X) or SLi (680i). so u cant just buy an 8800 GTX now if u want a 975X motherboard (Wich u do), unless u plan on selling it.

So i suppose it would be best to buy an X1950XT and wait for DX10, since there will be no DX10 games for a while, and who wants to spend 300$+ on Vista anyway?
When u Do buy a DX10 card, u can use the X1950XT for physics (or so the legend goes), or just sell it.

Ya but the inquirer said that r600 has only 16 rop's, Seriously ati wtf? You got Ocd or something? If i was ati(amd) I'd quadruple that number!

It's absurd to think a) that the inquirer knows this for a fact and b) that ATi would give it fewer ROPs than it actually needs.

I see only 2 things to worry about:
1. Will R600 actually have a 'real' 512bit memory interface?
2. Will R600's vec4 architecture be efficient enough to keep up with G80?

Totally..

a.) Dont trust anyone other than ATI.
b.) Trust ATI.

They had a "fake" 512-bit interface before. They wont do it again.

I hope not.

I can't imagine what makes you so sure.

Time will tell.

Im sure that they wont tell ppl they have a 512-bit when the really dont, again.
I think they will either have 384-bit or 512-bit.

first off "quadrupleing the ROPs" is much easier said then done. coming up with 64 adresses is alot harder then coming up with 16, i dont think ringbus (the unified crossbar) could handle that many.
