I have an 8800gts as you all may know and i love it! But what real ticks me off is that no matter how high i put the texture settings it still looks like crap! Same problem with my friends x1950xtx setup, The people, Cars, Heli's etc etc look so beautiful in Bf2 and Hl2 but when i zoom up real close to the enviroment it still looks like something from my ps1, With 16xQ AA forced from the control panel,
My friend has the same problem only we though that in his it was because of the low texture units.

Now let me ask you this I heard a rumor that in dx10 geometry will replace textures partially. By partially i mean tmu's will still render the enviroment but geometry will improve on it like say the buildings will look more realistic without AA by mapping geometry directly on the buildings using tmu's as a skeleton or something like that, Is this true?

Also Does anyone know when the g81 comes out? Cause i wanna step up.

I have an FX 5200 and im currently pretty happy with the graphical quality, so u must be insane.. :o

There is little known of the many different functions of DX10, so ull have to wait to find out.

The 8900s should be here after Feburary.

Its not a rumor that u think it looks like crap, the rumor is only the explanation of why that is.
I bet if ur zoomed up real close on ur PS1, it would look like a NES game. :p

Well, until games start using procedural textures, or some really really ridiculously huge textures, you will always be able to get close enough to see the individual pixels...that's just how it is when you're dealing with a static bitmap image...

However, I really don't think current games at high settings look bad at all...so if you have a specific gripe, you might serve yourself by posting a screenshot of exactly what you have a problem with.

I agree. Looking at something from a close distance dosent make it look blurry anymore.. and thats how i feel on an FX 5200.

I did'nt say it was blurry i said the image quality deteriorates when i look at the ground up close but strangely the water looks more realistic, And i force everything on high from the control panel like track said and it looks just the same when i put on in game settings maxed, Anyone know what might be wrong? Oh and the screenshot i'm working on it.

Now i have a question how do i make sure that what i set in control panel is forced? I put everything on high and tell it override application settings but it wont.

You cannot override texture settings in the control panel. You can only override anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering settings.

Thx Mike and Will geometry finally remove the need for AA and Make enviroments more realistic?

No, hes talking abt a feature that the 8800s have called "next-gen effects" wich enhances the look of textures and shaders, wich is controlled through the control panel.

I dont have an 8800.. yet, so i dont know where exactly that option is, but keep looking. And when u find it, i want to see some screenshots! This should be amazing.

Umm...what? What next gen effects could possibly take a static texture and make it better?

Exactly track it's something that you told me.

I dont know HOW it does it, all i know is that u can force a certain feature called "Next-Gen" in the control panel, increasing the image quality far beyong HDR+AA, and im sure it works for at least Half-Life 2 and Tomb Raider: Legends.

Perhaps u can show me a screenshot of ur control panel, David? Im quite familiar with the nVidia control panel. Make sure its the classic one.

Ah sorry. Go to "view" or "help" and select the option that lets u go back to the classic control panel.
The classic control panel is much better, i cant stand this "new" one.
