I know its in German, but you can try your best with a translator. But anyway, the videos show the obivous texture shimmering issues that not only the G70 cards show, but also the Nv4x cards show. The videos use the FRAPS codec so you'll need it to play them, they're only a few seconds but are completely lossless quality.

I personally think its the job of a hard site ([H], AnAnd, etc) to cover this topic. As its getting rather bad, and only worse from Nvidia.

I think it shows that Nvidia's quality is still often times not equal to that of ATi's. And it seems even when they have a clear hardware advantage that they dont cut back on the optimizations to give us equal quality at the default quality setting.

I honestly feel that this is driver/game related...nvidia didn't turn down the image quality intentionally when the x800s came out faster than the 6800s...so I see no reason why they would do it now...

IMHO 3dcenter is making something out of nothing...this exact same argument happened last year with ATi and it amounted to not a damn thing.

People will bitch enough, and nvidia will fix it.

if it's so noticeable...I wonder why it hasn't been brought up before? Or at least I haven't seen anything about it.

It is a driver thing, its optimizations in fact. This is shown by the fact that it pretty much goes away when using High Quality mode, or disabling the optimizations.

Sadly, it seems its gotten worse for some reason with the G70 core. I'm not sure why that is, maybe the nature of the driver core relationship that is still kinda early with the G70.

I think if enough people get mad over it that Nvidia will indeed tone of the optimizations down a bit.

Because big sites are to lazy to cover this type of thing, and little sites are afraid of losing sample products. Also, its well enough know that Brent at [H] regularly has to post a fix for it in the forums.

It's more like 3Dcenter is trying to stir up controversy, cuz controversy translates into page traffic, which translates into ad revenue.

I'll say it again, this argument has come up more than 4 times in the past year. Each time it was a site like 3dcenter, or driver heaven, and each time it was shot down.

While I have no problem with people bitching about it, because bitching leads to fixes, I seriously think that assuming that this new found shimmering problem is due to nvidia being a bunch of pricks and over-optimizing is just silly.

Nvidia knows how closely they're being watched. Sacrificing image quality to gain speed right now just doesn't make any sense.

Moreover, the kinds of people that would notice this problem, are the kinds of people that can find the high quality setting pretty easily...and even with high quality settings the 7800s are way faster than the competition.

I just think the whole thing is being blown out of proportion.
