Hey there people. 4 months eh ? I almost wonder if this will be read ;) Here's the system.

http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01852860&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=101&contentType=SupportFAQ&prodSeriesId=3999463&prodTypeId=12454

Anyway, I'm probably not asking anything new here, but I'm upgrading my nephews Slimline to save him some cash and naturally I'm having a bitch of a time finding my preferred choice of a ( any ) low profile 9800 GT GPU.

Now after going through a shitload of card comparisons here on the site, it almost seems I'll have to go even more retro to get closer to the 9800's performance level as the newer series of reasonably priced cards don't seem to offer much at all ( 200 -400 series i.e. ) oddly enough.

Can anyone offer a comparable lowpro card that I may actually be able to find  ? I'd appreciate it.

Ok. Heres your card.

More powerful than the 9800gt, dx11 vs dx10, and uses less power.

I doubt the original PSU in your computer is enough to push this card.

Your machine uses a TFX size PSU.

There are 400w TFX psu's available, but I don't know if they will push this card.

You could always bolt a

onto the side of the machine i guess.

Never let your loved ones buy a slimline again.

That is always the problem with 'slimline' units. hard to find parts.
the PSU is usually the problem as they can't handle anything decent. 220W!!!

You can get a better return on your money by building your own system.
According to your link the system is quite 'old'. Single core. this system will never handle any of the current games.

you can easily reuse most of the components (mouse key board hd dvd media card reader)

but if you really want something for this system then are low profile cards ranging from 40-80 dollars.

as above said don't buy slimline or I would say Dell either. The upgrade paths SUCK.

I wouldn't just say "Dells suck".
A desktop's upgrade path is limited only by the motherboard and how much crap you can cram in the case.
If you buy a midtower dell with a decent mobo/chipset, you can do a LOT of upgrading later on.

Also I think that your sempron will play a LOT of games just fine.
It gets completely acceptable benchmarks with a decent card at medium/high resolutions and settings. 90% of games are FAR more GPU dependent.
I think the video card I recommended WILL be bottlenecked somewhat by the cpu in more than a few games, you can just transfer the card over to your next machine.
