View Full Version : agp card for windows 7
Hello to all members of the community he m "has been said that to me would be the ideal card SAPPHIRE RADEON HD 4650 1GB AGP8x.
but something bothers me the SAPPHIRE RADEON HD 3850 AGP 512mb graphics processor displays a drawing of more "about the 100mhz 4650. yet it is cheaper. which is really more powerful?

IIRC, the AGP 3850 is faster than the 4650, if only barely. If you're able to get a 4670 AGP card, it would be about as fast as the 3850 AGP, and use less power.

Anyone have hands on experience on this cards as HD Video decoders/acelerators?
I have and old P4 SKT 478 Presscott rig and accesories that can be retired as video player (MKV,DIVX HD; BLUE-RAY;Etc)
A stand alone player with USB costs is about the same as the AGP card/Drive
Computer can gimme light gamming, web browsing and stuff but if can not play 1080P files and Blue Rays, the effort is not worthy.
In paper it does but reality is such heartbreaker.

Not sure if this is a factor for you, but an HTPC running a Prescott is a real power waster and heat creator. You could get a $30 AMD proc that would use next to no power and pair it with an HD 3200-4250 motherboard, for $70 and you'd have the ideal HTPC. You could use the same case/PSU/HDD, etc.

You mean AMD 780G chipset? .
After reading your anwser, I have read more about that and seems Ok to the job. Is and option could leave open for playback and browsing .But for gaming would need a discrete card; leaving me back on square one.
New rig + Cheap PCi-e card cost arround the same as a powerful AGP card.
But if the damm AGP thing can not play 1080P, will cut my wrist with a Twinkie.
Guess; at the end the issue will be resolved as many things in my country. Doing the best I can, with the things; I could find.

Well after this weeks, I can confirm, The AGP 4650 CAN decode 1080p flawless.
I donīt care about CPU utilization but for those who do is 20% - 40% (I guess mostly to audio decoding).
In 720p I can play many games (Res evil 5, Crysis, Batman arkanum, etc) with medium to high settings.I use a TV from 5 meters away; so increasing the resolution make little to non difference to me. Also for some reason at 1080i some games shutters (Fallout 3 for example). 720p is just fine.
I respect opinions but prefer to be CPU restricted (wich happend rarely) than card restricted (because the models sucks ALL the time).
Hope it helps PPL who have have the same doubt.

Glad to hear it worked out for you! Have been trying to post to the forums for months, and every time I do, it says I don't have permission to view the page. Frustrating....Steve, you listening out there? Not sure how much the great eye sees these days--I know that the Dark Lord has said his power grows in Minas Tirith, but I'm not sure how quickly. Anyone who can, please PM him about this issue, as I'd love to be active in the forums again, but cannot be, because of this problem.
Yes, the 780 chipset would have worked for you--you can actually game fairly well with a 40% OC, which the 4250 is more than capable of. Done it myself and played Mass Effect 2 on decently high settings/framerates.

ofcourse SAPPHIRE RADEON HD 4650 1GB is more powerfull because it has 1 GB of memory and the other one has just 512mb almost half ..

Your forum profile and setup looks fine to me. I'll have to ask Don to take a look at the forums to find out what is going on with them. I have some luck with refreshing the page I am having trouble with, so try that next time.
