I'm going to buy an nvidia graphics card. I'm confused which one of these 2 models should I go for? what's the role of core/memory clock speed while choosing a vga card?!
1:- GT 430 1GB DDR3
2:- GT 240 1GB DDR5

Get a GT 240 GDDR5 unless you have specific HTPC requirements you want from the 430. It's all about the memory bandwidt,h which a GT240 with GDDR5 is pumping out over double.

casecutter is right in the choice
but for different reasons
the 430 is the lower model
the number in front 2XX / 4XX is just the series
the second number is more important
x4x vs x3x in most cases the x4x will be better
because of more shaders / ROPS, etc

they have an OC'd 430 that can outperform the 240
plus the 430 does dx11 i believe
