It should be fine for just about any game out right now. I'm going to buy one next week, the Gigabyte version.

honestly if you have the cash for it, the only 2 cards currently "worth it" for the price is the 6850/6870 I got my 6870 brand new here in Canada when they came out 1 day later shipped to me for just under $300, the 6850 would be around $230 shipped or less, and the performance gap between these 2 cards and the lower down ones is quite large, and to the higher end ones not so much, in this case you actually are getting a very very good deal.

yes most definately, make sure you have the latest drivers as well, as far as disabling IGP go into your bios and sitch it from PCI/PCI-E to PCIE/PCI or if bios has the other switch there might be a button or setting that allows ti disable IGP directly without using above tpye setting, just as easy to research your mobo and that question though.

Hello, long time reader first time poster...

I am considering upgrading my GPU in the near future... however... do I really need to?

I am playing Star Trek Online on max settings.. most of the time the game plays perfect.. but every now and then it just crash's for no reason.. I think its mostly bugs in the game.. but every now and then I get an error message that my ATI video driver has stopped working but has recovered....

My Custom built system specs are:
AMD Phenom 9550 X4 (2.2ghz)
6 GB DDR2 800
ATI Radeon 3870 512mb, PCIe with latest drivers
750gb SATA Seagate Hdd
Asus M3A78-CM Mobo
Sony DVD-RW (SATA)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

I went on line to one of those game sites and it said I should be able to handle 93 to 97 percent of applications and games..released in the last 6 months..

other than that my PC has been flawless, my 3870 has played every other game perfect, Age of Conan on line..was flawless...etc..

If you have the cash I would seriously recomend a 6850/6870 to replace the 3870 mainly the IQ settings on the 6k series such as AA/AF are much better on 6k series, not to mention in raw horsepower your probably on the north side of 2.5 times more powerful then 3870 is, generally drawing a little less power and prducing less heat, I have a 6870 and beyond a few tweaks to the settings, has been absolutely a wonderful experience even compared to my 4870, and not that it`s an absolute must but the CPU could be upgraded to a faster new one PH2 and ram to faster i.e 1066 or better, more about getting the most from your rig, GPU wise its probably sufficent for what you play, but you wanted an opinion so there you have it, 6870 and faster CPU/RAM
