View Full Version : Is it worth it? AGP???
Maybe this question popped up more than once in this forum, so here goes..
Im running an .
--intel P4 Cpu with an 3.4 mhz (socket 478)
--2gb of ddr ram
--650 watt power supply
--sata2 maxtor hardrive
I want to upgrade my video card so I can get the best out of Oblivion.
Im running a low end 9600 radeon 128 mb
---Is it worth while to get a better agp video card or am I wasting time and money.(Because of my mobo)
--- If so, what type of agp card should I get?
Thanks TR

You're best bet on AGP would be an x850xtpe or a 7800gs...though it would probably be worth the upgrade to pci-e and dual core once conroe rolls around...
All depends on how patient you are...

I would wait and upgrade to PCI-E. It'll be worth it in the long run.
Ok, thats what I thought.
Technology is going to fast today to keep up with the best.
Ill wait for awhile ,because a new mobo, processer and pci -express card
are not to be given away. Quite expensive.
Ill sleep on the coin toss for a little while.
Thanks

Considering Conroes power do you think the time has come where dual cards (SLI/crossfire) are finally going to be worth it from a performance to price perspective?
Right now dual cards seem to be bottlenecked by the CPU because single expensive cards seem to be beating two cheaper cards right now.

Entirely possible, I'm curious to see what the extra CPU headroom does for multi-gpu setups...especially quad-sli...
I doubt it there will be much more performance in the conroe CPU's...:(

Conroe looks sweet actually. If the prices don't get gouged due to some availability problem, they should have AMD beat at every price point (even the cheapest Conroe was beating the 3800+ by a bit in the Anandtech review). Conroe is definitely Intel's best line of processors in a while. Competition = good.

[H]ard|OCP has proven that with a single highend video card and resolutions of
1280x1024 or 1600x1200 Conroe does not improve the FPS of popular games by
more than 1-2 FPS on average.
However in other reviews, when using Conroe with dual video cards you can get
10-20 more FPS when playing at "high" resolutions.
Conroe does kick lots of ass and I will probably get an E6700 or E6600 when I upgrade
depending on what CPU overclocks better.
