Hello everyone !!!

Ok i feel a little bit uncomfortable as im unsure of the safe zone of temperatures of my gpu...

(Gaming Temperatures)
My fan speed on the GPU is set to 100%
Ok il be brief... playing games such as Crysis/Cod4/GTA IV all running with MAX/HIGH graphics performance, full screen resolution 2048x1152:p
Ok my CPU is fine with a fan speed running at 2057rpm and an average temperature of 60/68c.
Now its my GPU that scares me lol, i must admit the performance is astonishing :D but... my GPU will reach upto a Temperature of 80/88c, it has reached 90c before and just beyond, and the Ram temperature has reached up 72c (Almost as the Max temperature hold is 75c). Now when i see this it scares the crap out of me  as i think my card is about to melt and my Pc is about to reach out and say "Hi" to the Hell God of Fire lol

Now my system is running as standard, there is no Overclocking involved.

How far into the safe zone am i actually really? Am i pushing my card too far due to the amount of detail and performance i like having within the game? And would it be neccessary to buy some extra internal fans...?

My case has an integrated (air) cooling system, two fans on the box, front/in & back/out. Both running with a fan speed of 1068rpm.
And also my CPU fan gives extra Ventilation to the top of my GPU.
At the moment i have my the side panel off my case and i have a normal dosmestic fan blowing into the case, this helps but a little keep it below 90c when playing games.

My GPU idle Temperatures are between 55/62c with a fan speed of 60/65%.
Idle with fan speed of 100% and an average temperature of 42c.

Your temps definitely seem a bit high, that case doesn't look like it has a lot of ventilation. Can you leave the side panel off and test your temps with it open?

actually he is pretty much in line

depends on the case ventilation and what cpu as well
all adds to internal temps

first review shows a high temp.

the next is better

last one shows old and new cooling for the card

Hey...

Great News, thanks ultima..... those links came very usefull to me, i feel much more better now in seeing them charts...

Im still going to head into a more of a confort zone so therefore my card should last a little bit longer then the average...

Ive done a bit of scouting and...
Ive decided im going to upgrade my two case fans with two of these, as they seem to spin much faster then the ones i have built in already!

And also this for my GPU...

-RK, yes that test is with my panels open, but im going to upgrade with some new fans, and see what happens with the box locked up tight ;)

Thanks Guys ;)

with a proper case. it should be cooler when closed...

my case, stays cooler closed than open. because
of the flow of forced air through the case

i have 3 fans blowing air OUT of my case

the one that does the biggest difference is the one that
blows straight up. i added it into my case myself,
as in drilled the holes needed, etc

Good News...

Ok, Ive brought two new internal 120mm case fans, both running @ an average speed of 2000RPM. One for the front and one for the back, they may also be regulated to speeds of 1200/1500/2000RPM.

"Please Note"
One thing i was not aware of, is that my CPU fan was running @ the average speed of 2057RPM and i never knew i was able to toggle the speed, i beleived it to be on the maximum speed, but it wasnt. It now runs @ an average speed of 3033RPM on full load.

Ive now tested my Pc with the box being closed for maximum air flow, my CPU is @ full speed 3033RPM, my case fans are both running at speeds of 2000RPM, and GPU card is now at 100% with a speed of 2307RPM. I loaded up COD 4, full screen resolution 2048x1152, max/high graphics performance.

I was astonished to see such a great drop in temperature after playing the game for around 30 minutes!

______________________
COD4 FULL LOAD - Now
Temps & Speed
CPU 55/60c - 3033RPM
GPU 80/82c - 2307RPM
RAM 70/72c - --------
FAN ------- - 2033RPM

COD4 FULL LOAD - Before
Temps & Speed
CPU 60/68c - 2057RPM
GPU 88/90c - 2307RPM
RAM 72/75c - --------

That is a huge difference in temperatures to what it was before, and the air flow inside the box is just amazing (trust me, you should hear it lol).

Cool As... so, im just left to buy one more piece of hardware for my box, and that is the Vantec Spectrum for my GPU. With that i should have no more problems with Heat on my GPU!!!

Il update again once ive brought and installed the Vantec Spectrum SP-FC70-BL, Fan unit!

All the best and thank you !!! ;)

as in drilled the holes needed, etc Did you drill the holes through the bottom of your case, and have your fan installed at the bottom so it pulls air from outside the bottom of the case?

Having a fan on top might help, but it depends on the alignment of the rest of the innards and where your cool air intake is. If your intake is near the bottom then it will likely help, but if your intake is at the top it will just suck the cool air out before it gets to cool your components.

Try to keep airflow in mind when you're doing case mods.

Anything above 80 is simply too high for consistent use. It's asking for a crash. If a fan fails, you'll have no warning--it'll just overheat and shut off immediately. Be careful with the application of thermal grease when you replace the GPU cooler. I bet they used either substandard grease, or put on too much. I run 2x GTX280s, and I don't have a problem with temps when running any of those games--even Crysis. Memory leaks have been a bit problematic sometimes, but not temps. I use stock coolers on the GPUs, and have an Antec 1200 case with all upgraded fans (Scythe 110cfm fans).

Offtopic - heh another Antec 1200 user :P .
Anyhow , over 80 degrees is high but not THAT high .
And if the fan fails and it shuts down (although I don't see why it would fail in the first place) , there usually is no real damage from overheating for a short period .
Oh and about changing the thermal paste ... DO NOT open up a GTX295 unless you know EXACTLY what you're doing - I've seen enough bricked cards killed by simply opening up the cooler to change the thermal paste .
