Need Video Card for Emachines T2792 to support Windows 7

Hello I am new to this forums and have a computer question for you computer experts. Yesterday, I installed the new Windows 7 OS and it installed pretty easily to my surprise; however, after the install it is telling me that I need to upgrade my display adapter/video card to support Direct X, 9.0 or newer. The computer I own is a Emachine model# T2792 and I am having a really hard time determining or identifying the correct card that is compatible with my computer since there is so many of them out there to purchase. I don't want to buy one to find out that it is the wrong one and not work for me. Everything in the computer is original except the RAM in which I upgraded to 1 GB. It has integrated Video with the mother board that I believe is 64 MB shared video memory. Can you all recommend which video card I should purchase that is cheap and will work with Windows 7 and is compatible with my Emachine model# T2792. Thank you, Bob:)

Stubby, that is my computers specs above, thank you. I opened the case up and it has 2 empty white colored PCI slots. One of the white PCI slots has a phone/fax module card and the other 2 are empty not being used at the moment. Is there anything else you need to make a determination of correct video card to purchase. The motherboard is made by TriGem-Imperial if that helps you out any. You're pretty limited in your choices there. I'd say you should go with a cheap card like the 8400.

One more question, sorry for all of the questions but will this work with Windows 7 and will I be able to adjust my screen resolution? Reason, I say ths is my current graphics adapter only has one screen resolution adjustment of 640 X 780 and no other adjustment is available because when I go to Yahoo web site it is huge and will not shrink to any size smaller. Besides the screen size issue Windows 7 seems to work fine on it otherwise.

Are you sure you've got the right video drivers for your current card? That might be the source of your problem.

And yes, the 8400 will handle a wide variety of resolutions.

I went to the Device manager under my computer and right clicked on the Standard VGA display adapter and checked for updates and it came back and said I had the latest drivers for my video card. If the 8400 works I will go ahead and purchase this. Let me know if I am missing something here. Thanks greatly for your help. Bob

no the memory on the video is seperate from the system memory.

properly the memory on the video card should be referred to as GDDR2 because it is optimized for video usage. Just don't try to put regular DDR2 in to your system slots or poof!
