Hi All,
My moby is a GA-8SIMLNF...the NF is a PackBell addon...anyhow...I have currently FX5500 128mb AGP GPU, I want to max the GPU....should I use AGP or PCI slot available for Flightsim? Will the board take 512 or 1GB GPU upgrade?

All good advice welcome,

Berne

you'll have to stay with agp

or this

are the most powerful AGP products you can get

Gee Thanks Ultima,

Great to know what max options I have AGP 4X but 1GB at this speed will function.
Take Care, HNY!

In any case , that card wont make full use of 1GB of vRAM .
What CPU do you have ? And how much RAM ?
I reckon it'd be a better idea to buy a brand new PC rather than waste money on the current one ..

I have Prescott 2.8ghz 533mzh 1MB cache CPU, with 2GB DDR1 333mzh, current card is FX5500 128mb AGP 4X, so if its only costing me say $60 / £35 for a 512 or 1GB AGP card you dont think it will boost performance for flightsim? £60 is a long way from my longterm build of £500 or more, what do you say? A new card will max out the board for a year or two, but Id like to read more on your GPU experience.

Reply when time permits,

By all means waste your money ... a HD 4670 AGP or w/e would definitely be a big improvement , I'm just saying you're throwing away money upgrading an ancient system .

Hi All,
Which 512mb GPU would give best performance in the $60 range for the above spec?
Ideas: Geforce 8600GT / Geforce 6200 / any others? My moby is maxed out using DDR1 so forget GPU with DDR2 and DDR3.

All good advice welcome.

Uhh... system memory and vRAM are NOT related so it doesn't matter what system RAM you use with a video card .
Anyhow , the 8600 GT is several TIMES faster than the 6200 .
List ALL your system specs ( don't leave out the PSU or the motherboard ) , I'm guessing it's an AGP motherboard rather than a PCI-e .

Hi,

My system:

XP HOME
GA-8SIML
P4 2.8ghz 1MB
2GB DDR1
500w supp

Lastly if RAM is not working off each other re GPU RAM and onboard RAM....hypothetically would a DDR3 GPU function well on my board with only a P4 2.8ghz CPU.

To close am I best to go with a 512 or 1GB DDR1 GPU as this is the best I can expect given the age of the motherboard and the support it can offer i.e. DDR2/3 would only be wasting money?

the memory on the video card

DOES NOT INTERACT with your motherboard

so it could aabbbaa aaah gooo memory on the video card

No, it doesn't matter, the GRAPHICS PROCESSING UNIT will use the faster VIDEO RAM on your video card, your CPU and SYSTEM RAM have nothing to do with it. Get the better card.

And don't ever (ever, ever, ever) bother with 1gb of slow slow video RAM on an ancient card.
