I've got a FX5200 PCI card in a budget PC without AGP or PCI-e slot. Is there enough bandwidth/throughput on a PCI bus to support HDTV display using this card in DxVA mode? It's a Celeron 2.4 GHZ w/512MB memory.

Hmm, that's an interesting question.

Though it seems like the PCI bus wouldn't be able to handle it, PCI video cards can display resolutions on a computer screen that are higher than what hdtv needs...so I don't see why it wouldn't work for playing games or just regular windows stuff...

Though the actual playback of HD quality video over the PCI bus might kill it...

I would expect that, in any case, it would be a bit choppy at best, but if it doesn't cost you anything to try, it's definitely worth a shot...

How were you going to output to an HDTV? Via the DVI port?

I was going to start with a VGA monitor, however a Windows screen will display native (1920x1080) on my HDTV 30" tube 1080i Samsung using the FX5200 DVI without getting the shakes. I think the whole issue is a bandwidth one. If there is not enough I'm sure it will just drop frames, especially during high action and I hate a jerky picture. Gives me a headache!!
