I freshly installed a copy of vista (x86) on my laptop (dell studio 1535) and the installer refuses to install ccc or my drivers. mostly its the ccc part that confuses me since I know how to manually install the drivers. i have a radeon HD 3400m (doubt it really matters).
UPDATE: the drivers wont manually install windows says "You already have the latest and best version of the driver"
Vista is trying to dumb down the process and causing a problem. It's most likely a conflict between the driver vista installed automatically and the one you're trying to install. Try uninstalling the display driver from device manager then restarting in safe mode to install the ATI driver.
I'd be more specific, but I'm very tired and going to bed soon.

I wound up using mobility modder to allow the latest ATI drivers to be installed on my mobile chipset. I didn't know vista had a default "driver" that always prevails. cool thanks for your help RK :) . turns out it was really my own stupid fault trying to install the ATI drivers from the AMD website instead of my manufacturer's site. but of of course those would have been 3 years old (7.1).
